In memory of Matthew “Dizzy” Zayas

As many of you know, Matthew was diagnosed with cancer in February. He endured surgery and aggressive chemo and we thought we were in the clear in June, only to be struck down when he got Covid and pneumonia. The last month we exhausted all options hoping he would spontaneously recover or qualify for a lung transplant but in the end his lungs and heart stopped working.

It is consoling knowing that he did not exit this life in pain and that in his final moments he was comforted by his beautiful quirky Nurse advocate girlfriend Raquelle, his life long best friend & brother by choice Alex, his sweet Grandpa Tom, his reliable and loving Aunt Crystal & Uncle Craig, his sister Sam & her adoring husband Stephen, and myself- his cousin Crystal. His last conversation before being put on life support July 8th was a phone call made to his daughter Sklyr where he was able to tell her Daddy loves you so much & wants to wish you a very happy birthday & can’t wait to see you again. And all of his birthday presents were delivered to Sky on her birthday July 9th. He wanted more than anything to make it to her yearly birthday dinner at Rustic Inn.

Matt did not want a traditional church service. He wanted to be cremated & he wanted the people who loved him to celebrate his life with sushi & by spending time with his daughter. We are working on the details of his celebration of life & will update you shortly.

In lieu of flowers or funeral donations we ask that if you find it in your hearts to give- all proceeds collected here will go directly to his daughter Skylr.

Nothing will take away the pain my family feels so instead I’d like to focus on how to support and assist his daughter in his absence. For those of you asking what you can do - this is it. This is the only thing I can think of - help me support Sky for him.
