In Memory of Mercy: Assist with Funeral Costs

Dear family and friends, on the evening of December 26, 2024. I was informed my dearest Mercy Nilda "Supercool" Jimenez was taken from us at the bright age of 33. She was born in Homestead, Florida on May 25, 1991. She was the daughter of Jesus and Carmel Jimenez-Lamia who told me there were balloons in the air when she was born, because she was meant to soar. She was home schooled until the age of 14 when she started college at Miami-Dade College and graduated high school while working on her Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry and Physics while she was 17. She met her future husband while at Florida International University. We started dating in October 2009, she claims it was November and if you knew her you would know she was always right. It is a well documented and witnessed fact, she tackled him against the wall inside VH building and he could not take his eyes of her afterward. She was part of the Society of Physics Students at FIU and for some time was the Events Coordinator. She was told by some she wouldn't make it as a nurse due to academics, but if you know Mercy, you know her passion for Christ and to make the world a better place was her drive. She dreamed to be a doctor since she could remember. The journey was tough but the support of her friends, she was accepted by Ross University School of Medicine and excelled achieving Suma Cum Laude upon graduation. Mercy was accepted into a transitional year for general surgery in Michigan, before she was accepted into a 2nd year categorical position at Flushing Medical Center in Queens, NY. New York City is where we made it, where we were married on February 19 of 2019, where we adopted our first pet Tuco and where we undertook a medical mission trip to Davao, Philippines soon after which was also our honeymoon. We lived and worked together during the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic in New York City. Mercy had undergone knee surgery around this time and refused to take the required time off. Rumor has it, she was running codes (saving people's lives) during the pandemic while on crutches, she was an UNSTOPPABLE FORCE. She graduated from her general surgery program in Flushing, Queens and not only was she the first surgical resident on her program to earn a spot in Surgical Oncology but also the FIRST WOMAN. She trained in Roger William Medical Center in Rhode Island in 2022 where she graduated in the Summer of 2024. She was hired by University of Alabama Birmingham and Infirmary Health to pursue her dream of ridding the world of cancer.
She loved running like no other, she had completed several marathons around the country and was planning to do many more. We were working on traveling to all 50 states and she took pride in knowing she was beating me. She loved butterflies, sunflowers, gardens, long runs, long hikes, long walks. She especially loved her espresso in the morning, at noon, afternoon but no later than 5pm, she particularly liked Bustelo. She used to tell me how her Grandpa Jimmy would wake up every morning and make her Grandma Nilda coffee, I strive to do that for her every morning when we were together. She remembered planting flowers with her Grandpa Jerry and learned to cook Italian from her Grandma Lucy and mother Carmel.
She loved her relationship with Christ, she loved her husband, she loved and honored her parents. She loved her Uncles Dennis and Mike who were her adopted second set of parents and were always there for her. She loved her siblings, even when they would get into arguments and they were many...she always told me how much she loved them and she knew she was loved. She had many guarding angels in her path in Miami. When she was in Dominica, she met many angels who carried her throughout medical school. When she lived in New York and later in Rhode Island, there were already angels waiting for her. She loved her Tuco cat and often called herself a cat lady but I would reminder her she had a husband and our dog Icy who is as much a runner as her momma Mercy.
She always saw the best in people and would push everyone to achieve their greatness but asking everyone to do a 50K run or not at 4 am. She was also a non apologetic vegetarian but she loved her eggs with cheese.
If you were able to read all the way to the end of this know there is much more I can say about her but my heart can only take so much at a time and also know that she would be upset that I talking about her as she would always put others first. She would also make sure to tell every one that I talked too much. We are asking primarily to pray for her to reach the gates of heaven and that she is no longer in pain, that her suffering has been washed away and that she is sitting, I mean running, among the angels. She would want all her loved ones to remember all the wonderful memories, her infectious laughter, her quick whip, joy of life and running, her love of butterfly gardens, penguins, elephants, tigers, sharks, going on hikes, baking me cookies, cooking me salmon, her Brussels sprouts and much more.
While we are working to arrange the final steps of her journey and preparing for her rites of passage, we sincerely ask for your financial support. Other than the go fund me page here, any financial support can be sent via Zelle to Wells Fargo account with phone number which can be provided.
