Ramona “Mona” A. Sandberg, age 66, of Rhinelander, WI, passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital in Wausau, WI. Mona was born in Rhinelander, WI, on October 12, 1957, to the late Raymond and Phyllis (Bruyette) Towne. Ramona was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 4th grade this prevented her from joining and doing a lot of school activities or events. She had many appointments and medication management for her diabetes condition. Mona was married to Kim Sandberg on September 6, 1975; he survives. Ramona had been doing dialysis treatments three times weekly for several years. Ramona was battling complications with her diabetes and her dialysis treatments. She had a 1 mini stroke, 1 heart attack that made her health worse due to the heart she had to undergo triple bypass surgery. She also has Sjögren’s syndrome.
Mona attended the Rhinelander High School and after entered the workforce. She held various jobs over the years bartending, working at Prange Way, and Trig’s Grocery. Mona later was employed in customer service at Walmart for over 18 years; a job she truly enjoyed. In her earlier years, she played on a pool and dart leagues and also played softball. Mona enjoyed playing cards and online poker. When her health would allow, Mona and Kim loved camping with her sister and brother-in-law.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Kim Sandberg; her daughter, Sabrina (Craig) Redmond; her son-in-law, Alex Mendoza; her brothers, Allen Towne and Randy Towne; and her sisters, Rose Fintelmann, Kathy (Ed) Johnson, Valerie (Gary) Yamauchi, and Debbie (John) McMeekin. She is further survived by her grandchildren, Yvonne, Lara, and Chase Redmond. Ramona is also survived by a brother in law. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Phyllis; her daughter, Candy Andres; her half-brother, Shane Klemm; and her brother-in-law, Lee Fintelmann.
