In memory of our amazing Matthew Blackmore

On behalf of his family and close friends...

Anyone that was lucky enough to of known Matt will know that it is impossible to put into words how kind, amazing and loving he was. One of the most loveable things about Matt and what people admired most about him was how brave and confident he was, unapologetically himself.

There was never a dull moment around him and he always put a smile on everyone's face no matter if it was him breaking out into song and dance (usually ABBA), if he was doing his Peggy Mitchell impression (get out of my pub!) or just simply being his fun loving self. You could not be in his company without smiling or crying a few tears of laughter, usually brought on by his infectious laugh. He had the special ability to cheer you up on your downest day.

His passion for singing/dancing, his friends and family and his work was something he was so proud of. He was truly one in a million.


We are overwhelmed by the amount of friends and colleagues across the country who have paid wonderful tributes to Matthew and would like to offer condolences.

For Abby (or known as cowellen by Matthew), would like Matthew to be able to have the best possible send off as we all know Matthew liked to make an entrance!

We have set up this page to cover the costs of his funeral. Once funeral costs have been coved, the rest will be donated to the Rockinghorse Children's Charity which supports the Alex (where Matthew worked) and the Brighton and Sussex University Hospital Charity - the Alex.

Matt did a sponsored abseil for the Rockinghorse in Autumn 2020. He was terrified the whole way and had a good laugh with Matron Lynne and his other colleagues after, bringing laughs and smiles to his team like he always did!

After seeing 'Carry on Matron' from about the age of five, Matt made his first nurses hat out of paper and set his passion and journey to become a nurse (he must of made his Auntie Maria watch him act out the role of Nurse Susan or Matron at least a thousand times)!
He was determined to see his dream come true and graduated this year in February 2020 with a Paediatric Nursing degree from the University of Brighton. This was one of his proudest moments in his life shared with Auntie Maria and we were truly blessed to see him so happy.  He respected the profession with all of his heart and soul.

We feel that both charities were so loved by Matthew and we hope to continue to support them in anyway we can. Expenses and donations will be handled by his cousin, Laura Cassidy.
