His story.... At 17 yrs old Alton’s mother bought him a suitcase and he headed to New York to live and pursue his dreams of becoming a recording engineer.
Upon getting to New York he enrolled at RCA Institute to study the basics of electronics. He then attended Pace University and wound up installing microphones for the UN, as well as providing the sound system for studio 54.
Pastor Alton Jackson began his career in a small town in Georgia, but it was not big enough for his talent or ambition. He made his way to the big city of New York by himself at 17 and started a career in the recording industry. Shortly after, he rose the ranks in business and became one of the first black executives to work for Gillman Paper and Harvey Electronics.
However, city life was not fulfilling enough and he felt God pulling at his heart. He wanted to do more and later went into the ministry and became a street Minister in New York Times Square. At the time, Times Square was littered with pornography theaters, sweatshops, and very lewd and sensual adult entertainment that have become the armpit of the city. However, God called him right down into the middle of it to become a street preacher and preach the gospel to a city that was lost. He spent many years down there preaching the gospel. He gave up all of the business world and all of the recording accolades.
Before going to the street, he had an opportunity to work on a project with Sesame Street but he felt God was calling him for a much bigger mission, and he gave it all up for a Ministry at a time in a city that needed direction the most.
By being on the street witnessing many miracles, he ended up pastoring two churches in Harlem and becoming a missionary with the Mennonites. He ministered around the country and even preached in the middle of Cabrini Green which was a treacherous project in Chicago.
His passion for the word and his belief that God could change anybody was the motivating factor of his life, and he exuded such love and care for other people because he had experienced the true love of God.
Later in life, he became sick with renal failure, but that didn’t stop him from preaching the gospel. While he was undergoing dialysis treatments and dealing with all of the effects of the disease, he still was preaching in churches and leading people to God.
