Patsy O'Donnell was an energetic 68 year-old. A loving wife and mother, she worked full-time as a child minder, right up to the week she received a devastating terminal diagnosis. Within six months, we watched our beautiful Patsy fade. In the final days of her illness, our family conceded that the comfort she so deeply deserved could no longer be maintained at home.

Patsy was one of the first residents at the new branch of the Mayo Roscommon Hospice in Castlebar. We had no experience of hospice services; presuming them to be much the same as those offered in a hospital. We learned that they are that, and so much more. The solace and comfort the hospice staff gave Patsy in her final days was a gift we can never repay, but we want to do out best to make sure other families in the same situation receive that same privilege.

Patsy completed the VHI Women's Mini Marathon a number of times over the years for many different causes. So this year, on Saturday 18th of September, we are completing the virtual marathon in her memory to raise funds for this wonderful service.

We will be so grateful to anyone who gets behind this worthy cause and gives what they can.
