In Memory of Richard “Pooder” Evers, III

On May 26, 2022, our brother, Pooder, won his fight with alcoholism. It no longer has him in its debilitating clutches. He is finally free and at peace. He is now raising cane in Valhalla, as a true Viking should.
Pooder was my best friend. Although we didn’t grow up together, in the physical sense, we maintained our relationship over the phone. Our dad moved to Cali when Pooder was 2 or 3 and our baby brother and I stayed in Virginia.
Before we were separated, we were always outside at the honeysuckle vines on the fence. I would help him get a few flowers and I would get some for myself. We would pop the bottoms off and suck on them. Some of our best memories, for sure, were at the honeysuckles.
In 2008, Pooder and I physically reconnected when I moved to Cali. It was the first time we had seen each other in person since about 1983-84. We both cried and held each other tightly. It was as if we never skipped a beat or spent any time apart. We even got to fight like siblings. It was amazing!
Pooder’s artistic abilities, infectious laugh and heart of gold are deeply missed. Despite his demons, Pooder was the guy you always want in your corner.
I reside in North Dakota and he is in California. This fundraiser is to help get me to him, to say “see you later,” to take care of his memorial, and to celebrate him with his friends and our family. Any funds left over will be giving to his children.
Pooder, see you at the honeysuckles.
I love you with my whole heart! You are forever my best friend and baby brother.
