In Memory of Steven Gary Morrell
On Tuesday 20th July we received the heartbreaking news that our Dad, Brother, Son and friend Steven Morrell had passed away, aged 49.
Steven was a military veteran, a ‘Gunner’ serving in the British Army’s 2nd Field Regiment Royal Artillery 1988 to 1993, seeing active Service in Operation Granby during the 1991 Gulf War.
Unfortunately, like far too many ex-service men and women, Steven had fallen on hard times and was struggling with his mental well-being. He tried hard to rebuild his life but regrettably, the overwhelming challenges of daily life became too much. A showman and a real character, he loved to entertain and we all have memories of him being Steven!
Steven was a father of two children; Charlotte (23), and Oliver (20). By creating this page, our aim is to ensure that we keep on talking about mental health, PTSD and anxiety, providing support for serving military personnel, veterans and their families alike.
The donations from this page will contribute towards ensuring Steven receives the funeral and remembrance he deserves, as well as raising awareness for mental health for serving military personnel and veterans.
The reason the fund was established is discussed above. As Steven's elder brother I set up this gofundme page to generate funds to cover all of the associated funeral expenses as my brother did not have anything in place or sufficient funds to cover these costs. Steven passed awaysuddenly at the early age of 49. His children aged 23 and 20 are unable to cover these costs so having sought advice, the family sought support from our friends, family and the wider community to give this Serviceman a simple dignified funeral.
The funds raised will be used to settle the costs of his funeral. Once all invoices have been paid, any remaining funds will be donated to military mental health support charities. Steven suffered for most of his adult life with mental health issues and PTSD from his time in the military. It is therefore appropriate to allocate the remaining money to charities that specifically address those issues.
