In memory of Susan Byrd Tipton Austin

This fundraiser is in memory of Susan Byrd Tipton Austin, who played flute at Asheville High School and earned a music scholarship to the University of Kentucky. She died on January 31, 2023, after being diagnosed with dementia.

We are funding music education in the Asheville City Schools music programs.

We have already raised more than $2,800 that has been given to the band director. That money is being used to send student musicians to band camp this summer! This will be the first time some of these students will get to go to band camp!

I have also donated Susan's flute, and it is being refurbished and will be presented to a young woman who has shown great promise on the flute in the city music education program. (She's only a seventh grader!)

I am Susan's husband, and her memorial service is April 22 in the Asheville High School band room. Students are providing music for the service.

Please consider donating in Susan's memory. All money raised will go to support musicians in the Asheville City Schools band programs. Specifically, we hope to provide money to cover the cost for consistent private lessons for deserving student musicians.
