In Memory of Tatiana Krentsel: Cancer Research

Donation protected
We will be fully matching donations 1:1 through our employer up to $20,000, doubling your donation impact. 100% of received donations will be donated to registered 501(c)(3) nonprofits supporting cancer research, including Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Research, who saved my mom's life 10 years ago.

On January 5th, 2021, my mom, Tatiana Krentsel, passed away. She was 57. She had been successfully battling for many years now, but her passing was very sudden and unexpected for both her doctors and me. She fell suddenly into a coma on New Years Eve, which she fought for 5 days until ultimately passing. In lieu of sending flowers or other gifts in her memory, I ask that you instead donate that money to this GoFundMe. We (Nicole and I) will be donating 100% of the money we receive, and matching it 1:1 up to $10,000 each.

More info about my mother, Tatiana

My mother, Tatiana Krentsel, was Ukrainian, growing up in the tail end of the Soviet Union, earning her PhD in Physics in Kiev before coming to the United States in the early 90s for a better life here in America. She finally became a US citizen last year. She worked doing Physics research before I was born, then became a stay-at-home mom when I was born, nurturing me and supporting me, finally working briefly in my high school and college years as a Physics lecturer and Physics researcher.

She has touched many lives over the years, across Missouri where I was born, upstate New York where I grew up, Kentucky where I finished high school, Ukraine where we spent our summers with my grandpa, and California where I went to college and started working. My mom was the epitome of giving, always giving over taking, consoling over complaining, loving over hating, and wanting the best for others over herself. She raised me in this spirit, giving me all the love she could muster and all the best opportunities she could create. I’m thankful for many things, but most of all for her ability to nurture passions in me. She never imposed, never forced - just watched me and encouraged me where she saw me have an interest in something or doubt myself, whether it was in music, tennis, soccer, or programming. She encouraged me to continue to pursue my passion for music in college, in addition to my engineering degree. I truly owe all of my success today to her love, nurturing, and the values she instilled in me. If I have ever touched your life, she has touched your life through me.

Sincerely,
Alex Krentsel
