In Memory of Timothy Vogt

I met Tim Vogt in 1997 after reporting to the USS Normandy (CG 60). Some would say he was the fire in Main Engine Room #1. When unchecked, things could get really interesting … a little eye-brow raising … even funny and might even push the envelope. But, most of the time, this fire came from the heart of a man that truly cared about the people around him. He would work hard to support his shipmates, the officers above him, and the ship. Tim was truly an extraordinary man!
Through challenges and turmoil, Tim was selfless and always tried his best. No matter what, he just really wanted to support whatever the task was at hand. Tim was definitely one of the most memorable sailors I ever encountered.
It had been several years since I had seen Tim, but was fortunate enough to meet him and his wife, Stacey at a ship’s reunion about 20 years later in 2019. Physically, Tim wasn’t the same youthful spirit that he once was due to injuries from his time in the Navy. But, one thing was still there as strong as ever … his heart and the love he had for his shipmates. He pushed past some of the physical restrictions and pain to spend a little more time with his old crew members.
Unfortunately, Tim’s physical challenges and pain eventually became too great and we lost him. Tim will be sorely missed because of all of the lives he touched.
This GoFundMe is being set-up to help take care of Tim’s family. Anything that you can provide to support Stacey and their daughters would be truly appreciated. I know that Tim would have done the same for any of us.
We’ve got the watch, shipmate!
