In memory of Trooper Joseph Gallagher
Donation protected
In 2017, on an overpass on Long Island Expressway Joe stopped to assist a disabled motorist. He pulled over his patrol car, turned on the flashing lights and got out to help. Unfortunately, a distracted driver failed to notice the lights and hit Joe. Three years later, after receiving excellent nursing care, Joe passed away. Flags are flying at half-staff across New York State in his honor.
Joe loved service of all kinds. A member of the US Naval Sea Cadet Corps, he attended SUNY Maritime College and served in the Coast Guard before he became a the NYS Trooper.
Many have asked how to honor and support Joe and his family. The funds collected here will be given to two causes near and dear to Joe and his wife Laura.
Half of the funds collected will be given to the Signal 30 Benefit Fund. The Signal 30 Benefit Fund supports the members of the New York State Police and their families in extraordinary circumstances such as death, illness, injury and loss. Signal 30 also provides an extensive scholarship program to benefit the children of Troopers.
The other half collected will be donated to the Save the Sullivans campaign (www.Savethesullivans.org) The ships are in severe disrepair, and are being assisted with a fundraising campaign with a goal of raising the $1,000,000 dollars needed to permanently repair them. Joe’s love of the naval park, and the preservation of these ships, will be a lasting tribute to his memory.
On behalf of our family, thank you for honoring Joe.
