Honoring the Legacy of George Merz, Jr. :
Donation protected
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George Merz, Jr., a true American hero, on April 9, 2024, at the age of 99 in Louisville, KY.
George’s legacy is one of bravery, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to his fellow veterans. For years, he journeyed to Europe , revisiting the battlefields where he once fought, accompanied by his dear friends, Butch and Wanda Stump and Nancy Steenssens. He shared his stories, attended local ceremonies, and inspired countless individuals, especially students, with his remarkable experiences. George became a beacon of hope and admiration and a bit of a “Super Star” of the WWII Veterans.
Even when his health prevented him from traveling, George’s commitment to his comrades never wavered. He entrusted Wanda with his his photographs, challenge coins, and his noble mission to continue fundraising to support other veterans’ journeys.
George’s wish was for donations to be directed to Wanda’s charity, “Lest Never Forget Our Heroes “ in his memory, ensuring that future generations of veterans could make similar pilgrimages. With George’s generous spirit guiding us, your contributions will help fulfill his vision and enable more veterans to embark on meaningful trips. Together, let us honor his memory by ensuring that his legacy of service and sacrifice live on.
God bless you, George Merz, Jr. you will forever be in our hearts.
