In memory of Youna

Donation protected

Hello, my name is Daniel Chan Hyuk Park and I lost my 9 week old German Sheperd puppy to parvovirus two days ago. I got Youna 2 weeks ago on March 6th and she was the sweetest, smartest, and loving puppy I had ever met. Anyone who was lucky to meet her or unlucky I guess, would tell you the same I hope. I know I speak for everyone when I say this past year has been rough. My parents moved back to Korea and since winter of last year, I have been renting a place by myself while I finish school. I was really excited to get Youna who I hoped would be my companion as I start my new stage of life.

The first couple of nights were sleepless as anyone who's had a puppy before would tell you, and I could not tell you how stressed I was as it was my finals week before spring break. But strangely I miss it now that it seems so quiet. I was so proud of her as she was smart, she already learned how to go potty outside and would react to her name.

Thursday, she stopped eating and she had extreme diarrea. I took her to vet to check if anything was wrong, and the vet explained that 2 days prior, another german shepherd puppy with the same medical form, same birthdate, same vaccination date, and same signature tested positive for parvovirus - a virus that aggressively attacks the gastrointestinal system of puppies and is fatal if not treated properly. So he said that this wasn't a coincidence, and that she should get tested for parvovirus. He provided medication for me to feed her at home while I waited for the results. That night I got the call that Youna tested positive for parvovirus and the vet had already called into a emergency hospital to admit Youna. I took her to the hospital at 4am in the morning to where she was hospitalized until her final days.

The team at the emergency hospital worked hard 24/7 to help Youna. And when we had exhausted all treatment options, the vet had offered a plasma transfusion from her own dog, who was a parvovirus survivor, as the last desperate attempt to cure my puppy.  Youna went into septic shock, and on Thursday, March 18th there was no chance for her recovery and I had to make the heartbreaking decision to euthanize her.

The breeder had compensated me the inital $2000 for Youna, but has been leaving me on read since. Initially, the estimate was $3-7000 for IV Treatment, but as her condition became more critical, further treatment had to be done. The hospital bills and treatments have added up to $11000 and it has become complicated for me financially. I am not the type of person that asks for help much less money, but I humbly ask for any financial support to pay for rent, food..etc for the next 2 months while I finish up my education and I will be looking to work to pay the rest off. Please don't feel obligated to donate, even just sharing to anyone you know would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for taking the time to read and thank you in advance.

I'd like to thank my gf, her family, my friends, their families, my family, the team at the hospital and anyone who has helped support me these past 2 weeks.
