In Solidarity with the People of Beirut
Donation protected
On August 4, 2020, we were all shaken by a huge explosion that rocked our beloved Beirut; leaving thousands of victims and injured people, massive destruction of houses and streets and estimated 300 thousands homeless. The economic cost of the damage was estimated to passed 10 Billion usd.
Once again People’s Solidarity is needed to cope with the aftermath and rise again from this calamity.
Since we are from the people and working closely with and for the people who suffered from innumerable losses; we are launching this fundraising campaign under the “People’s Solidarity” name to raise funds to support those most affected by the explosions. This campaign is a relief campaign initiated by Lihaqqi - a grassroot movement.
What do we do?
1- Households’ support through in-kind donations for food and basic essentials’ packages, hygiene kits, DIY construction kits, etc.
2- Cleaning of streets and rubble.
3- Households renovations and repairs.
4- Support for 500+ volunteers on the ground through provision of food, kits, transportation, cleaning equipment and protective gear.
5- Provision of basic medical supplies to medical volunteers and intervention tents in collaboration with other NGOs working in the health and relief sector.
How do we do this?
1- Mapping of the needs on the ground and keeping the database updated (open source and public to anyone who needs it) : more than 400 volunteers are working on daily basis in Beirut.
2- Outreach to affected families and individuals for distribution.
3- Our groups of independent architects and engineers will work on strategies and framework for reconstruction and rehabilitation of buildings. The work will include technical surveys, needs assessment, and rapid construction.
4- Collaboration with NGOs, grassroots, initiatives, and businesses.
Who receives our support?
1- Affected households.
2- Volunteers.
3- Partners we are working with on different fronts.
4- Medical volunteers and intervention tents’ volunteers.
We will create transparency and accountability mechanism to make sure that the money is spent where needed. Therefore, we will contract an external audit firm to observe, and audit our financial reports that we will publish on monthly basis, and we will keep updating the names of partners who will be helping on this initiative. Thank you for supporting us, together we shall rise again. For more info, please check People's Solidarity page on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/peoplessolidaritylb/
