In Support of Brian and Maria Kawdji

Hello, Some of you may know that Brian Kawdji, husband to our friend and colleague Maria, has been fighting liver cancer for the past 8 years. It has been a long and arduous battle, which Brian had fought bravely and admirably with his caretaker and love of 40 years. Throughout the 6 years of treatment, Brian endured multiple rounds of treatments that gave him hope but often left him weak and depressed. Despite the emotional rollercoaster and side effects, Brian is thankful that it gave him precious time to spend with Maria and loved ones. It has been a long battle and while Brian still has the will to fight, the treatments that have been keeping his disease at bay are no longer effective. Maria has been unwavering in her support of Brian during this time and has continued to work full-time while being Brian’s caretaker and advocate. The perseverance and courage that has been shown by Brian and Maria has been remarkable. Several days ago, Brian has transitioned from the hospital to the comfort of home. Maria continues to look after him and provide support in whatever way she can. She continues to do all of this while maintaining the household and preparing for the possibilities that may come. While the global situation has made things difficult for everyone, we wanted to find a meaningful way to show our support for Brian and Maria. Cancer is not a forgiving disease and brings devastation to one’s health, emotions, and finances. Medical bills are going to add up, as will other expenses that may come during this time.
