In support of Ron Long Sr. Men's Traditional Special

Aaniin! (Hello!),

My name is Naomi Long, I am the daughter of Ron Long Sr (Red Lake) and Beryl Rock (Leech Lake). A little bit about myself and the reason I am asking for your generous donation. I have been raising funds to honor my father with a Men's Traditional Special at the 2024 Ponemah Labor Day Powwow held August 30th-September 2nd, 2024.

My father had been a Men's Traditional Dancer since the 1980's. He was a great friend and relative to many and had countless friends all over Indian Country. He greeted everyone with a hand shake and smile. He had many stories and jokes to tell as well as many teachings. He knew many songs, whether they were powwow or ceremonial songs. He was always singing.

In the past few years, it became hard for him to get to powwows to sing and dance. I noticed a change in him once he wasn't able to do things he enjoyed doing the most. He enjoyed being with friends and family, singing and dancing or being at ceremonies. During the past few years, I made the choice to commute back and forth from my family and home in Mille Lacs so I could help him out more around his home in Red Lake. Since his passing, it has been hard for me (grieving) to be home in Red Lake especially away from my family while they're in Mille Lacs. Recently, the commute has taken a toll on both of my vehicles and I haven't had much time spent with my kids during their summer break from school. I have been devoting half of summer trying to make sure I have everything I need in preparation for my father's memorial special. This first year is definitely a learning experience for myself and I will definitely plan throughout the coming year in preparation for his 2nd year memorial special.

I appreciate all the compassion and support I have received so far from so many people. The support at the food and rummage sales I have held this summer, I am beyond grateful! To those who have donated so far, you all are very much appreciated!
