In support of Terry Whittingham and family

On Sunday, June 26th, Terry Whittingham passed away in the early evening.  Terry was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing and is now peacefully at rest. 

His family is sincerely grateful for the outpouring of love and support over the enduring 17 days while Terry was in hospital.

We all know Terry and Mel as that cheerful, compassionate couple who never hesitate to offer a helping hand. And now they have come into a situation where they need some support.

 

On June 9th, around 5:30 pm, Terry was on his way home from a bike ride in the river valley when he had a traumatic fall, which caused his heart to stop.

 

A good samaritan found Terry without a pulse, and thankfully performed CPR and called 911. Terry was admitted to UofA hospital emergency as a nameless person. Emergency responders searched his phone and were able to reach the last person he called; that was Melanie.

 

Terry was admitted to ICU, where his family (Mel, kids, parents and sisters) was called to meet with the cardiovascular surgeon, and it was decided that Terry would have surgery to support his heart and lungs to function. That evening, Terry was transferred to the cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) at the Mazankowski Heart Institute for surgery.

 

Terry’s family and extended family have expressed infinite thanks to the medical staff and to his friends and community for the support, energy and love that have enveloped him.

 

Mel and the kids have begun a challenging journey, and there are many uncertainties at this time.
