In Support of the Persaud-Abrahams Family
Donation protected
On July 2nd, 2019, Dianne and Jonathan Persaud-Abrahams brought their son Jacob to the doctor for what they thought was going to be a simple check-in regarding headaches that he was experiencing. They were sent to Sick Kids and within 24 hours it was discovered that Jacob had a mass in the left side of his brain. For all of who know of the sweetness and love of their family - Jacob, his younger brother Judah, Dianne and Jonathan - words cannot express the shock and heartbreak of the news. Why? How? All questions we ask.
12-year-old Jacob has a fight ahead. We know that Jacob’s tumor is too close to his brain stem making the tumor inoperable at this point. Jacob started undergoing radiation treatments July 9th, which will continue 5 days/week for 6 weeks with the goal of shrinking the tumor. 4-6 weeks after the radiation treatment is over, he will have an MRI to determine the change and figure out next steps.
We are reaching out to help Jacob and his family financially tackle the fight they face ahead. As a single-income family, the road ahead will be challenging. Jonathan is, obviously, staying home and not leaving Jacob's side; even assuming Jonathan is approved EI, it will only cover 50% of income. We can all easily envision the added expenses with reduced income - complete lifestyle change, supplementary treatments, items that Jacob will need, and all the things that come along (planned and unplanned).
We're with Jacob in his fight and the entire family will need our emotional and financial support. Hopefully this campaign covers the financial part so that this worry is out of their minds. No donation is too small, no donation is too big, every bit counts.
Jacob was asked what he wanted when he first arrived at Sick Kids... He answered: "An iced capp". True Canadian!
Jacob just finished Grade 7 on the honour roll. And his recent growth spurt has given him some great physical skills!
Handsome man!
