In the fight for someone we love; Maria Ortiz

Donation protected
Our sweet Maria Ortiz, Madre, Abuela, y BisAbuela. Where do we start, Shes been the strongest woman to have ever walked in our life. It all started Mothers day in the year of 2014 when we first found out she had been diagnosed with Cervical Cancer which was a 2-year battle that led into remission. Here we are 5 years later, after numerous doctor visits, chemo & radiation appointments the battle is now coming to an end...A battle she fought so hard for, never gave up, never lost faith!

Unfortunately November 2018 during a re-visit, the cancer had come back, this time as Lung cancer. By that time she was too fragile for the chemo. On March 22nd,2019 she was rushed to the ER and at this time a blood clot was discovered in her thigh, then after multiple test and scans, they discovered an abscess in her hip/pelvis which after further testing ended up being a tumor that was disguising the sarcoma cancer that was spreading rapidly.   A family meeting was called where we discussed option A palliative radiation or option B hospice. Being that Grandma Chula is a fighter she insisted on trying radiation, unfortunately, she was only able to handle 8 of 10 treatments. It was on April 6th, 2019 that she was placed on hospice. As of April 30th, 2019 doctors have informed us that she only has a couple of days (hours minimum) left with us.

Maria is the sweetest soul you could ever come in contact with, She had the biggest heart. Her smile SO radiant it would light up the room. She was a hardcore devoted Catholic, her purpose in life was to serve the Lord and to help others. For 20 years she fed the homeless in Santa Ana primarily at Jerome Park. She also was of service to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church for 20 years. She worked in senior citizens homes and helped take care of them towards the end of their lives. She always told us "this is my calling in life to serve the Lord by the task placed in front of me". She has been a GREAT example to our family as being obedient and a true servant to God. She reminded us daily to love and forget, to honor thy neighbor and never lose the faith...

Let me tell you what we like to think are fun facts about Grandma, she LOVED her fried chicken, she loved knitting, but her most favorite cooking for her kids & grandkids. Everyone had their favorite meal that she only could make. For example, my brother Chris her Menudo, Tio Louis her stuffed Enchiladas, Uncle Joe her fried pork chops, Myself ( Su Chinita) it was her nopales en salsa verde. My mom Cathy her gorditas de queso. Her great-grandkids loved her pancakes. My brother Junior, Sister in law Krystina, and Sister Angelynna loved her tamales. Let's just say when the family got together it was Marias Restaurant and it made her the Happiest. "Queries otro Plato? Andale come mas".

Please continue to send prayers. This has been a difficult time all around. Thank you, everyone, for the love and support that has been shown so far. It is a financial hardship to our family due to this sudden experience... We are asking for donations to help with funeral & burial services. If a donation can't be made we ask that you please help spread the word and share our link.

Any amount of help would be appreciated.
