In the memory of Kin Yip Zheng

On the morning of January 18th, 2023, my dad, Kin Yip Zheng passed away. Most people who knew my father would know him as the owner of Canton Express in Speedway for the better part of 30 years. He was there most days of the week. cooking, delivering, and whatever else was needed to run a restaurant.

Back in September 2022, he was diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer. This news was devastating for the whole family. Along with having to do chemotherapy, he was no longer able to work, leaving the restaurant in my mother's hands. Even amidst closing the restaurant for taking my dad to treatments and cutting out delivery from their services, my mom ran the restaurant as best she could to stay afloat.

At first, the chemotherapy seemed to be effective. the numbers seemed to be trending the right way. We had hoped that he would get better and maybe even make a feast after the all-clear was given. Unfortunately, that would never happen as after months of hard-fought progress, we were told last week that the treatments were no longer effective. After the option for hospice care was accepted, we brought him to my godmother's house so my mom could work and be close in case anything happened. The morning after the equipment was set up and delivered, he was found not breathing by my mom when she woke up. He looked peaceful and suffered no longer.

This is a life event that has impacted the family greatly. My mom still plans to run the Canton Express as long as she can. All funds donated will be given to Yip's wife Hui Zhen Yang (Jan) to pay any bills left behind and any other expenses incurred. Any amount given will be greatly appreciated in this time of sorrow.
