In the Wake of Tragedy: A Call for Compassion and Support
Donation protected
What started off as a night of celebration quickly turned for the worst. What should have been the turn for a new year and joyous memories, became a time for mourning, compassion, and sympathy.
On New Year’s Eve, the Benigno family was faced with a tragedy involving a fireworks explosion resulting in a mass casualty (over two dozen injured, and at least three deceased). Many of our friends and family were injured, and our auntie Lita unfortunately lost her life.
While information is limited, we can confirm that our beloved auntie Lita has passed away, Junior (her son) also sustained extensive fire-related injuries, her 3-year-old grandson has suffered the most extensive injuries with most of his body burned, and Charmaine (her daughter) is currently in the ICU with burns beyond recognition. Cedric (son), his girlfriend and their four children were able to escape with minor to moderate injuries, however, parts of where they resided perished in the explosion.
As a family, we came together and have made the hard decision to start a GoFundMe to help the family Auntie Lita leaves behind during this time of crisis.
It's with a heavy heart that we are asking for monetary donations and prayer from anyone who is able to help. All donations raised will go directly to Cedric and will be used for any funeral and medical related expenses for all involved, and to support their families during this long road to recovery. Any contribution, whether monetary, through prayer, or just by simply showing kindness to the family during this incredibly difficult time will make all the difference. Your support, in any form, is appreciated more than you all know.
GoFundMe created by Rylan Benigno in support of Auntie Lita, Cassius, Junior, Cedric, and Charmaine. Rylan is the cousin of Junior, Cedric, and Charmaine.
