It’s been three years since Sunday in Brooklyn was born, and just three weeks since Rule of Thirds toasted its first guests with “KANPAI TIME”. Both restaurants were established to grow the sense of the community in the Williamsburg and Greenpoint neighborhoods. Central to these communities is our team. They are the backbone of everything we have created. As with many of our fellow friends and restaurants, we have had to lay off over 120 team members between both our Brooklyn restaurants, with no certainty around when we will be able to offer them employment again. It is not something that any business can really prepare for, and by far the toughest decision we have ever had to face.
While the world is in crisis, we are focused on finding a way for our team to survive the substandard unemployment wages. The only way to most directly, and quickly impact them is by asking for donations on their behalf. We are calling on our incredible community to donate, share and help where they can. 100% of every penny will go to our team equally. We are hoping to raise enough to give every person $400 a week for 8 weeks. While this is a lofty goal, it really isn’t that much money to live on in New York City.
The top 500 donors will receive a ticket to our Come-Back Industry Fundraiser Party, to be held at Rule of Thirds, once we are through the other side. It will be a time to celebrate our generation’s incredible accomplishments over world-wide adversity. More details surrounding this event to come soon.
We appreciate all the love and support we have received so far. There is hope in a human movement, and we definitely feel a strange sense of comfort in that we are all in this together.
