Incendio - House Fire

Più di 25 anni fa ho conosciuto quella che ora é tra le mie migliori amiche: Maddalena.

Se state leggendo queste righe, forse la conoscete anche voi.
Potreste averla conosciuta ad una raccolta fondi per famiglie meno fortunate, o durante quella manifestazione contro l'abbandono degli animali, ad una conferenza per la protezione delle specie protette o un sabato al gruppo di lettura.

Se siete qui per caso, invece, vi dirò, oltre quello che avete già letto, che Maddalena é una persona che ha avuto una vita non facile ma che, in silenzio, ha sempre applicato il principio del "finché abbiamo, possiamo dare".

E ha sempre dato.

Maddalena é la mamma di uno splendido bambino di 8 anni, Lorenzo, che durante la notte tra il 25 e il 26 aprile 2020, in piena pandemia e in una situazione emotiva già precaria per un qualsiasi coetaneo, é stato svegliato da una frase lapidaria, quella che cercheremo di fargli dimenticare al più presto: "Lorenzo svegliati subito, dobbiamo scappare".

Nella cuore della notte tra il 25 e il 26 aprile 2020, un cortocircuito ha colpito la loro abitazione e MADDALENA E LORENZO SONO SALVI PER MIRACOLO. Quando al telefono l'operatore ha comunicato che i vigili del fuoco sarebbero arrivati non meno di 10 minuti dopo, Maddalena ha capito che sarebbero stati troppi e non ce l'avrebbero fatta. Così, con quella lucidità che l'istinto di sopravvivenza ti dona quando, nella vita, tante volte hai dovuto imparare a sopravvivere, dopo essersi arrampicati sul tetto della loro casa, poi sul tetto di un'abitazione confinante e dopo e aver urlato con tutto il fiato in corpo, sono stati soccorsi dai vicini, che hanno indicato loro la direzione verso cui dirigersi per poter scendere e mettersi in salvo in casa loro.

Un miracolo che non sappiamo spiegarci.
Anche Cheope e Lavan, i gatti di Lorenzo, sono stati tratti in salvo dai vigili del fuoco giusto in tempo.

Tuttavia, questa storia ha un "ma".

Il cortocircuito ha provocando danni che vanno molto al di là delle loro capacità economiche, aggravate dal fatto che, a causa del Covid-19, le entrate di Maddalena si sono ridotte al minimo.

Pareti, portone, mobili, vetro della finestra del primo piano, impianto elettrico, tutto ha riportato danni, insieme a buona parte della cameretta di Lorenzo e i suoi giocattoli andati in fiamme, come quasi tutti i vestiti di Maddalena.

La macchina della solidarietà si é attivata  alle prime luci dell'alba e, chi poteva, ha messo a disposizione ciò che aveva: competenze tecniche, forza fisica, supporto morale.

Ma questa famiglia ha bisogno di tutti noi, ed é il momento che le venga restituita un po' della generosità che ha sempre riservato al prossimo.

Per favore, ve lo chiedo io per lei, datele una mano.
Una piccola cifra per voi, può fare la differenza per loro.


Per Maddy, quando leggerai tutto questo, so che non avresti voluto chiedere aiuto, ma ci sei sempre stata per noi, e noi ci saremo per te.

More than 25 years ago I met the one who is now among my best friends: Maddalena.

If you are reading these lines, maybe you know her too.
You may have known her at a fundraiser for less fortunate families, or during that demonstration against the abandonment of animals, at a conference for the safety of protected species or on a Saturday at the reading group.

However, if you landed here without knowing her, I will tell you, besides what you have already read, that Maddalena is a person who has had a difficult life and, in silence, has always applied the principle of "as long as we have, we can give".

And she has always given.

Maddalena is the mother of a beautiful 8 year old boy, Lorenzo, who during the night between 25 and 26 April 2020, in the midst of a pandemic and in an already precarious emotional situation for anyone, was awakened by a lapidary phrase, the one we will try to make him forget as soon as possible: "Lorenzo wake up immediately, there is a fire and we have to run".

In the middle of the night between 25 and 26 April 2020, a short circuit hit their home and MADDALENA AND LORENZO ARE MIRACULOUSLY ALIVE . When the operator told her over the phone that the firefighters would arrive no less than 10 minutes later, Maddalena realized that they would not have made it. So, with that lucidity that the survival instinct gives you when, in life, many times you have had to learn to survive, they had to climb on the roof of their house, then on the roof of a neighboring house and after that start screaming from the top of their lungs, they were rescued by the neighbors, who indicated the direction in which to go in order to go down and get to safety in their home.

A miracle that we cannot explain.
Cheope and Lavan, Lorenzo's cats, were also rescued by the firefighters just in time.

However, this story has a "but".

The short circuit has caused damage that goes far beyond their economic capacity, aggravated by the fact that, due to Covid-19, Maddalena's new part time job's income has been reduced to a minimum.

Walls, door, furniture, glass on the first floor window, electrical system, everything suffered damage, along with a large part of Lorenzo's bedroom and his toys that went up in flames, like almost all of Maddalena's clothes.

The machine of solidarity was activated at the first light of dawn and, who could, made available what it had: technical skills, physical strength, moral support.

But this family needs all of us, and it's time to get back some of the generosity that it has always reserved for others.
