Jimmie's Study Abroad Trip

Good Morning,

My name is Jimmie Lewis, III and I am a junior biology major student at Prairie View A&M University. My impact on social action of education will be to learn as much as I need to achieve my goal of going to medical school and becoming a physician. An alpha man is never beaten, therefore I have the strength and mind to succeed on this long journey of becoming a medical doctor.  I want to be an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine because I have had many knee injuries and surgeries during my sports career in high school, therefore I want to make change in young athletes lives. My goal is to become the best orthopedic surgeon in the nation. The percentages of African American orthopedic surgeons in this world is insignificant, therefore I want to become the individual that young black males can inspire to become using their brains. The healthcare field needs more African American doctors, therefore my long term goal is to create a foundation to mentor young students interested in the healthcare field to make sure they reach their ultimate goals.  The road to becoming a practicing doctor is a long and a very demanding one but I believe I have the motivation, commitment and ability to succeed.


Apart of my journey to become a successful physician is to study abroad and view the concerns of medicine on the international level. I have a lot of shadowing hours in many hospitals in the United States, however, I wanted to get the global perspective of medicine this summer.  I have been granted  the opportunity to study Healthcare Practice and Traditional Medicine in Nicosia, Cyprus .  The School of International Training  program has granted me a scholarship for my studies this summer. However, I have to provide my own room, board, and personal expenses. 

I started this campaign to help assist with the necessary expenses to study abroad this summer. Any donation, no matter how small, is greatly appreciated. I am beyond hopefully for this amazing opportunity and I hope that if you are willing and able, you will make an investment in my future.
