Indoor Skatepark - Wellington, Somerset

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Charlotte and my little film will be able to tell you a lot more about me so let's get down to brass tacks. I'm here asking for help towards the build of an indoor skatepark.

I am venturing into the lease of a unit in Wellington, Somerset, specifically, a multi-purpose unit, where inside will be a lounge space, personal training space and skatepark!! A fixed, wood skatepark.

Currently, the only indoor skateparks in the county are in Minehead, and if you count Bristol as Somerset, well there are some there as well but, for me, it's a bit of a distance to keep visiting so, I want to change that.

Outdoor skateparks have their uses but for me, I just don't love them. Full disclaimer, I am no park skater. I am an indoor flat space and still learning roller skater which may be a reason why I find outdoor parks a little intimidating, for health, safety and security reasons and well concrete just isn't my favourite. After visiting an indoor skate park up north, I loved it and instantly wished I could have somewhere closer to me where I could practice, and be safe and supervised doing so! There just aren't any around.

The joy of the location for this park is it's just off the M5 and there are some great transport links to get there.....not to mention the certain 'golden arches' on the doorstep! If you like that sort of thing of course.

I want the park to be open for balance bike riders, roller skaters, in-liners, skateboarders, and even hoverboarders to come and use, stay dry, grab a drink, hang out, and enjoy. (unfortunately, it just won't be big enough for BMX'ers). Furthermore, with the right guidance, I would absolutely love for wheelchair users to come and play, and for those with special educational needs to also have access and learn to skate, scoot or board in the safety of a supervised and specialised session.

Leasing a unit and creating the interior space is going to be a pretty hefty whack to the wallet, so the build of the park itself needs contribution from you.

So whether you want your children to have somewhere to go and scoot after school, or get a bit edgy with their balance bikes, or you're just looking to start up park skating yourself, this park needs you. There will also be occasions where the skatepark won't be used for just the wheels, it will be open to artistic fitness sessions, movie nights, corporate events, bride and groom showers, and small parties. The ideas are plentiful, so if you like what you read, enjoyed what you've seen and believe in the cause, I (and so many others) would be eternally grateful.

Follow the Instagram and Facebook page(mpu_nineteen)and YouTube (MPU-19
) to see how the park build progresses over the year.

If the build of the skatepark can't happen at all, you will be refunded full donations.

If only a mobile (not fixed, wooden) skatepark can be built, I will seek permission to see whether you would prefer to be refunded, or whether you'd still like to put your donation towards the build of moveable obstacles.
