Il progetto - Infopoint Upupa
L’Infopoint Upupa - un uccello migratore, portatore di meravigliosi significati di rinascita e pace in molte culture - è uno spazio di supporto, solidarietà, connessione e mutuo soccorso per tutte le persone di Ventimiglia e di passaggio.
Il progetto è autofinanziato da Progetto20k, con il supporto e l’impegno di altre realtà solidali. Lo spazio rimane aperto grazie al lavoro di numeros* attivist* e solidal* che mettono a disposizione il loro tempo per permettere di garantire una presenza costante.
Progetto20k è un collettivo politico, orizzontale e autogestito, che dal 2016 lotta contro il sistema di violenze razziste, capitaliste e patriarcali incarnate dal dispositivo frontiera sul territorio di Ventimiglia.
L'Infopoint nasce nella primavera 2022, dopo mesi di ricerca di uno spazio e immaginazione del progetto.
Upupa vuole essere punto di contatto sicuro e accogliente con e per le persone migranti, ma anche un punto di incontro tra chi abita la città e le persone che la attraversano. Il progetto ha preso vita in uno spazio indipendente in cui si possono trovare informazioni multilingue sui servizi presenti sul territorio e sulla protezione internazionale in Italia e in Europa, ricaricare i telefoni cellulari, partecipare a corsi di lingua, organizzare riunioni e momenti di auto organizzazione politica, e immaginare laboratori di espressione artistica.
I cambiamenti politici e sociali del territorio
Non è stato semplice mantenere questo spazio solidale in una città come Ventimiglia, piena di problematicità e di contraddizioni. Le ultime elezioni lo hanno dimostrato, portando Flavio Di Muro (Lega Nord) al potere. Le sue primissime azioni furono di sgomberare l'unico posto dove le persone riuscivano bene o male a dormire: sotto un ponte, nel degrado più totale. Poi ha deciso che fosse una buona idea mettere una guardia armata davanti al cimitero, l'unico posto in cui si trovava acqua per le persone in movimento. La sua azione è stata anche quella di moltiplicare gli effettivi della polizia, mettendo un presidio fisso di fronte all'infopoint, in spiaggia e nei giardini comunali. Avrete capito che (r)esistere qui non è semplice.
Nello stesso tempo, il proprietario del locale dell'infopoint ha cominciato una procedura legale per ritirarci la gioia di pagare 500 euro al mese per l'affitto, la prossima udienza al tribunale di Imperia è a giugno.
Azioni di supporto a Ventimiglia e non solo
Nonostante tutto, stiamo pensando ai progetti futuri, e soprattutto a come affrontare le giornate di freddo e maltempo per chi sta per strada. Proviamo ad accumulare qualsiasi tipo di indumenti caldi, a trovare legna per fare fuochi sotto al ponte gelido, e di recente abbiamo installato un sistema per fare docce calde dentro allo spazio. Tutto questo richiede organizzazione, materiale ed energie, ma purtroppo anche soldi.
Ci attiviamo per implementare uno sportello legale con amicx di Genova, per sostenere le persone che pensano di stabilirsi in Italia dopo aver ripensato la loro traiettoria migratoria a causa delle violenze sistematiche e della non accoglienza francese che continua a respingere persone quotidianamente, inclusi minorenni.
Siamo, inoltre, presentx anche fisicamente alla frontiera, dove le persone che vengono respinte dalla polizia di frontiera possono ricevere una bevanda calda, del cibo, supporto emotivo e legale, e un trasporto per ritornare a Ventimiglia. In questo modo riusciamo anche a monitorare i respingimenti e le loro modalità, in costante cambiamento, coordinandoci con altre persone solidali presenti nel territorio.
La nostra presenza a Genova
Questa raccolta fondi è condivisa da due realtà: Progetto 20K, stabilitosi a Ventimiglia da ormai 7 anni, e 20K Genova, progetto nato nel 2023 con la volontà di lottare contro altri tipi di confine, quelli presenti nelle città, che si concretizzano in prefettura, in questura o nei diversi centri di accoglienza. L'idea è di sostenere le persone nelle loro procedure amministrative, dare un supporto morale e materiale a chi sta facendo il percorso lungo e complesso di richiesta asilo e di integrazione in Italia. Sostenuta dall'Aut Aut, centro sociale nel centro di Genova, l'assemblea 20K Genova si attiva ogni settimana per invitare chiunque ha bisogno a venire e condividere il peso messo dal governo italiano sulle spalle di chi immagina un futuro qui.
Questa raccolta fondi servirà anche a coprire le spese legali per il processo di Upupa, cosi come quelle di compagnx colpite dalla repressione nell'ultimo anno a causa di azioni di supporto a persone in movimento.
Con il vostro contributo ci aiuterete a:
- Tenere aperto lo spazio e coprire le spese di affitto e delle utenze.
- Acquistare alcuni strumenti fondamentali, che servono alla gestione dell’Infopoint: pc, materiale di cancelleria, credito telefonico, caricatori, cellulari, computer, etc.
- Stampare i materiali informativi multilingue.
- Avere a disposizione un fondo per coprire le spese legali per i processi in corso.
- Avere a disposizione dei fondi per la redazione, la pubblicazione e la promozione di report di advocacy, per l’organizzazione di eventi pubblici di sensibilizzazione rispetto alla situazione dei confini, e per la promozione di attività di sensibilizzazione all’interno dello spazio dell’Infopoint.
- Organizzare eventi culturali e informativi per facilitare la buona convivenza tra la cittadinanza e le persone in transito.

The Project - Upupa infopoint
The Infopoint Upupa, which is named after a migratory bird, bearer of wonderful meanings of rebirth and peace in many cultures, is a space of support, solidarity, connection and mutual aid for all people from Ventimiglia and passing through.
The project is self-funded by Progetto20k, with the support and commitment of other solidarity realities. Progetto20k is a political, horizontal and self-managed collective that has been fighting against the system of racist, capitalist and patriarchal violence embodied by the border apparatus on the territory of Ventimiglia since 2016. All of its projects only remain open thanks to the work of numerous activists and supporters, who volunteer their time to allow a constant presence.
The Upupa Infopoint was born in spring 2022, after months of searching for a space and imagining the project. It wants to be a safe and welcoming point of contact with and for migrant people, but also a point of encounter between those who inhabit the city and the people who pass through it. The project has come to life in an independent space, where one can find multilingual information on services in the area and on international protection in Italy and Europe. Additionally, it offers possibilities to recharge cell phones, connect to the Wifi, have a cup of tea or coffee, use the bathroom, participate in language courses, organize meetings and moments of political self-organization and implement workshops of artistic expression...
Political and social changes in the territory
To maintain this space of solidarity in a city like Ventimiglia, full of problems and contradictions, is tough and continuously challenging. The last elections proved this, bringing Flavio Di Muro (Lega Nord, right wing party in Italy) to power. His very first actions was to evacuate the only place where people were able to sleep: under a bridge, in total abandonment. Furthermore he placed armed guards in front of the cemetery, preventing people on the move from accessing their only source of drinkable water. Of course, his action was also to enlarge the police force, establishing a fixed presence of cops in front of the infopoint, the food distribution, on the beach and in the municipal gardens. Therefore, existing and resisting here is not easy and subject to constant repression and aggression from police and rightwing inhabitants of Ventimiglia alike.
In the meantime, the owner of the infopoint's space started a legal procedure to withdraw us the joy of paying 500 euros per month for rent, the next hearing at the court of Imperia is in june.
Support actions in Ventimiglia and nearby
Despite everything, we are thinking about the future plans, and especially how to deal with the cold, the bad weather and the problems it brings for those who sleep on the street. We try to collect all kinds of warm clothes, find wood to make fires under the freezing bridge. All this requires organisation, material and energy, but unfortunately also money.
We are working to implement a legal office with friends from Genoa, to support people who are thinking of establishing themselves in Italy after having reconsidered their migration trajectory due to the systematic violence and the french non-hospitality that continues to pushback people on a daily basis, including minors.
We are, in addition, also physically present at the border, where people who are pushed back by border police can receive a hot drink, food, emotional and legal support, transportation back to Ventimiglia and information about the services present in the city. In this way we are also able to monitor rejections, police behaviour and their constantly changing patterns, with the help of other solidary people that are present in the territory.
Our presence in Genova
This fundraising is shared by two groups: Progetto 20K, which has been established in Ventimiglia for 7 years now, and 20K Genova, a project born in 2023 with the will to fight against other types of borders, those present in the cities, those that take shape in the prefecture, the police headquarters or in the various reception centres. The idea is to support people in their administrative procedures, to give moral and material support to those who are making the long and complex journey of applying for asylum and integration in Italy. Supported by Aut Aut, a social centre in the centre of Genoa, the 20K Genoa assembly is active every week to invite anyone in need to come and share the weight that the Italian government puts on the shoulders of those who imagine a future here, but with the wrong papers.
This fundraising will also allow to cover the legal costs for Upupa's trial, as well as those of comrades targeted by repression over the past year because of their actions in support of people on the move.
With your contribution you will help us to:
- Keep the space open and cover the costs of rent and utilities.
- Purchase some basic tools, which are needed to run the Infopoint: laptops, stationery, phone credit, chargers, cell phones, computers, etc.
- Print multilingual information materials.
- Have a fund available to cover the legal costs of registration, legal action cases, travel.
- Have funds available for writing, publishing and promoting advocacy reports, organizing public events to raise awareness with respect to the border situation, and promoting advocacy activities within the Infopoint space.
- To organize cultural and informational events to facilitate good coexistence between the citizenry and people in transit.

L'infopoint Upupa
Depuis le printemps 2022, un étrange oiseau vole dans le ciel de Vintimille... l'Upupa de notre bel infopoint! L'infopoint Upupa est un espace de soutien, de solidarité, de connexion et d'entraide pour toutes et tous les habitant∙e∙s de Vintimille et celles et ceux de passage.
L'infopoint est financé et soutenu par Progetto20k, avec le soutien et l'engagement d'autres collectifs et associations (un grand merci à l'association Martina Rossi ainsi qu'à Borgomanero, Imperia solidale et Roya citoyenne). Progetto20k est un collectif politique, horizontal et autonome qui lutte contre le système de violences racistes, capitalistes et patriarcales qu'incarne le dispositif frontalier répressif ré-instauré sur le territoire de Vintimille depuis 2016.
L'infopoint Upupa, oiseau migrateur, symbole de renaissance et de paix dans de nombreuses cultures, a vu le jour au printemps 2022, après des mois de recherche d'un lieu et de réflexions sur le projet. Ce lieu aspire à être un point de rencontre accueillant et sûr avec et pour les personnes migrantes, mais aussi un point de rencontres entre les personnes qui habitent à Vintimille et celles qui y sont de passage. Aujourd'hui, l'infopoint se matérialise par un espace indépendant, ouvert tous les après-midis, ou l'on peut trouver des informations disponibles en plusieurs langues sur les services et associations présentes à Vintimille et sur les procédures légales de protection internationale en Italie et en Europe, recharger son téléphone, boire un café ou un thé, participer à des cours de langues, accéder à des toilettes, organiser des réunions et des moments d'auto-organisation, imaginer des ateliers d'expression artistique... Le lieu est entièrement auto-financé et fonctionne grâce à l'engagement de nombreux-ses militant-es et soutiens qui y assurent une présence constante.
Evolutions sociales et politiques du territoire
Maintenir l'infopoint ouvert est un défi permanent dans une ville où l'extrême droite est au pouvoir, ce qui implique des politiques publiques hostiles aux personnes migrantes : une présence policière démultipliée, expulsions, harcèlement policier... Le propriétaire du local de l'infopoint a aussi entamé une procédure juridique pour mettre fin au bail (nous payons un loyer de 500 euros par mois pour le local). La procédure légale suit son court et la prochaine échéance est au tribunal d'Imperia en juin.
Soutenir les actions à Vintimille et au-delà
Au-delà de l'infopoint, les projets de Progetto20k sont plus largement ceux du soutien des personnes migrantes dans un lieu où les frontières complexifient les situations de migration : collecte de vêtements chauds, de matériel de camping, soutien juridique aux personnes souhaitant rester en Italie, présence physique à la frontière en proposant aux personnes "pushed back" (renvoyées Italie par la police française) un thé, un café, de la nourriture, et un soutien émotionnel et juridique, des informations sur les services présents à Vintimille et comment se rendre en ville. De cette manière, en lien avec les autres collectifs solidaires présents sur le territoire, nous pouvons aussi collecter des informations sur les refus d'entrées sur le territoire français, les agissements des forces de l'ordre et leurs constants changements d'attitude.
Une antenne de Progetto20k s'est implantée à Gênes et a aussi besoin de ressources pour financer ses activités : soutiens juridique, légal, matériel et émotionnel notamment auprès des personnes ayant décidé de déposer leur demande d'asile en Italie.
Pour que l'infopoint reste un lieu ouvert, accueillant et résilient, nous avons besoin de soutien, y compris financier, afin de garantir non seulement sa survie, mais aussi et surtout son épanouissement.
Votre contribution nous aidera à :
- Maintenir l'espace ouvert, payer le loyer du local et les frais courants (électricité, eau, thé, café...)
- Financer du matériel de base pour le fonctionnement de l'infopoint : ordinateurs, stylos, cahiers, crédits téléphoniques, chargeurs, téléphones portables, etc.
- Imprimer du matériel d'information dans plusieurs langues
- Couvrir les frais de procédures judiciaires et de déplacement
- Soutenir la rédaction, la publication et la promotion de rapports de plaidoyer, et organiser des événements publics de sensibilisation à la situation frontalière, et promouvoir des activités de sensibilisation au sein de l'infopoint
