If you have ever met Ingrid and Michael, you know them as incredible, loyal, awesome, generous, compassionate, athletic, strong, and adventurous people. As husband and wife, they make everyone smile and the world a better place. In August 2018, Ingrid embarked on the journey of becoming a physical therapist at Regis University in Denver, CO. She is excelling as a student of her future profession. Michael is actively building his successful real estate business in Summit County, CO.
I love them, you love them, we all love them! Right now, Ingrid and Michael need our help:
On Friday, March 8th, 2019 at approximately 11:30 PM, their vacation in Mexico took a frightening turn when their car hit a tree. Ingrid and Michael sustained significant, life-threatening injuries, and they were both rushed to a local hospital in Playa Del Carmen. Upon arrival, Ingrid had emergent plastic surgery to repair a 6" laceration to her forehead and scalp. 36 hours later, an air ambulance transported them to Swedish Hospital in Denver, CO, where they are now admitted in stable condition.
We know that Ingrid has a small, stable fracture in her cervical spine, multiple rib fractures, and has fractured 4 out of 5 lumbar vertebrae. Later today, she will undergo surgery to stabilize her lumbar spine. Michael has multiple rib fractures, a fractured sternum, a collapsed left lung, and a badly fractured right tibia that will require surgery later this week. They are being well-cared for at the best trauma hospital in Colorado.
All of us can only imagine the future ramifications of this horrifying accident – emotional, physical, and financial. Following discharge from the hospital, Ingrid and Michael will require months of physical therapy, occupational therapy, follow up appointments with surgeons and primary care physicians, and other forms of rehabilitation.
So, how can we all help? The easiest way to support them locally and from afar is financially. Most of us have high deductible medical insurance plans - Ingrid and Michael do as well. Secondly, most U.S. medical insurance plans do not cover international medevac. When all is said and done, we are estimating the total out of pocket medical costs to be $80 – 100,000.00.
Please donate to their cause, whether it be small or large. I want to make it rain cash on these two - Help get Ingrid back to school, Michael back to work, and them both back to skiing, running up and down mountains, biking, and enjoying life as soon as possible.
