In-Home Aid Care for Sylv and Larime
Donation protected
We are a disabled married couple, and we currently do not qualify for Medicaid, which is what is used to determine eligibility for in-home aid care in pretty much every state. Larime was once on Medicaid, but the government decided that their GFM to get Sylv chemo for stage 3c cancer was "income" and we lost it, and our aid care.
We paid our aid out of pocket for about a year, but struggled to afford it, and eventually had to let them go. This left Sylv doing all the physical care for Larime and all household chores despite having EDS and POTS. Then COVID happened, and Sylv's condition worsened.
We have been struggling on our own, living in a messy home, doing what we can for hygiene, for three years now. We can't continue like this. It's not safe, not healthy - physically OR mentally - and we've had Adult Services called on us once already and they said there was nothing they could do because we don't qualify for services.
We're reaching a breaking point.
Aid care companies basically require a minimum of 3 hours of service per visit, and a minimum of 3 visits per week or they won't even bother. Add to that the cost, $22+/hr, and we can't do it on our own. We're hoping to raise enough to cover roughly 6 months of care, all proceeds going to pre-pay our service so there's no interruption. A year would be fantastic, but even 6 months buys us some time and an improved quality of life while we try to get in a better position, financially.
Three hours three days a week would be a huge improvement in our quality of life. We thank you all for the support and generosity, and hope for a better year for everyone.
