A RECENT NOTE: i NOW AS OF 2024, i NOW HAVE HEART DISEASE AND CANCER. IN EARLY JULY OF THIS YEAR, MY CAR WAS DAMAGED WHEN A PANEL TRUCK DROPPED MANY SPIKES ON THE ROAD IN FRONT OF ME RESULTING IN ALL 4 TIRES BEING DESTROYED AND CAUSED MY 22-YEAR OLD SATURN TO GO OUT OF CONTROL AND ALL 4 WHEEL RIMS TO BE SEVERELY DENTED AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. I'M IN MORE TROUBLE THAN EVER!!
I hate to beg, but I'm at the end of my rope!
head-on

NOW, THE REST OF THE STORY:
As an year filmmaker, I'm used to raising money for my films. But I've never been in a situation like this before.

While in Libya earlier this year, filming for my documentary about the Libyan Revolution and the U.S. Consulate attack in Benghazi, I was seriously injured. I made it home okay with the aid of a crane which lifted me on to the plane. complications from the injury sidelined me AND aggravated an already bad back. Turns out I also had a broken hip which took doctors months to notice. This left me physically unable to do the video/film work-for-hire that I've always done to pay the bills.

My Libya trip exhausted the last of the funds I'd raised for making the film, so now I'm literally penniless. (If I hadn't gotten $50 from a friend last week, my 14yo daughter wouldn't have even had food this week.)

But earlier today, I was in the hospital AGAIN, awaiting insurance approval for what my doctor calls IMMEDIATE surgery. (If I don't have it right away, he says a major nerve may be severed at the L1 vertabra, leaving me disabled for the rest of my life!) I'm on all manner of muscle relaxants and the maximum IV painkillers, all to keep me from screaming in agony. But, on top of that, yesterday I had some kind of cardiac event (BP 230/110, etc.) that required the hospital to call in their "Green Team" to save me.

I'm a wreck.

So I was here, back at home at Baylor Carrollton Hospital - room 347, starting last Tuesday night and until tonight when they decided that my insurace company, which had sent Baylor a list of all the doctors "in network" yesterday that could do my operation... and only after they later called all these orthopedic doctors the insurance company had just faxed Baylor that they were "in network" found that when they called back they had all been pulled from "in network." Therefore the cost of my operation, would basically be up to me and in the tens of thousands of dollars. My doctor tonight, Dr. Rai, asked me why can't I wait until October when I'm on Medicare? I told him that I can't bend over and when I arrived at Baylor last Tuesday before the morphine which is given to me every other hour, I was screaming. I can't work because of both the knee and the back but figured at least I could get the back fixed but every doctor listed on my "in network" , as I have mentioned, has been removed and put on "out of network" apparently since I've been in the hospital since last Tuesday. Likely, the insurrance company discovered that not enough people signed up for my plan (plan plus which was specifically designed for Obamacare)and decided to make it ineffective so they wouldn't loose any money. The doctor who saw me when I arrived at the hospital was listed on my "in network" and both he and I had called in March to verify that he was. When it came time for my operation, they pulled him "off network." They apparently did this to the other doctors also listed as "in network". My guess, is that they had determined that there were not enough members in my "in network' to make it statistically capable to profitably service anyone.

I'm broke and can't pay my bills. I'm facing cut off of power, gas, water. I'm expecting to be evicted from my rental house on Tuesday or shortly thereafter, based on how my landlord acts upon it. I literally CANNOT work right now to raise even $1.

And NOW the hospital has thrown me out even though they are aware of how bad my MRI looked the other day even though they have heard me screaming in pain for days, even though I had a doctor Tuesday night who looked at my back and I felt indicated he would fix it. When they discharged me tonight they said, simply, it's not life threatening. As if not being able to bend or lift anything at all except in extreme pain, is ok. If you can't make a living, I'd say that's life threatening to me.

PLEASE help!

I'm desperate to get back on my feet (literally AND figuratively).
