Injured From Accident and Humbly Asking for Help

Hi, friends. My brother, Gabe, and I were in a really bad accident a couple weeks ago. We were at a dead stop and rear ended by a truck that was traveling at 50mph. Both of our vehicles are totaled, and I am injured worse than anyone anticipated. The ligaments holding my head to my neck are so stretched from impact that they were nearly severed. The arch in my lower back has caused my bottom vertebrae to jam and shift forward to where it's stabbing me in my pelvis. It's called an "anterior sheer," which is more of a problem with people who have donks and exaggerated inward lower back curves (who knew having this wagon would literally be dangerous ). My upper vertebrae is jammed and bulging into my trachea, which is causing my voice to be hoarse and I feel it blocking my throat when I swallow. I have to wear a neck brace for 3 weeks around the clock, even when I'm asleep. Everything is sprained: sternum, shoulders, collar bone, rib cage. I have a herniated disc in my lower back that is now starting to pinch my sciatic nerve, and I have a severe concussion bordering on traumatic brain injury.

Gabe has had much better luck (thank god), and is being checked out for potential long term damage. We are concerned about his history of seizures and neck pain, which we will be monitoring closely with his concussion and whiplash.

My brother’s dad is creating more chaos by using Gabe’s needs as a method of control over him, and our great aunt, who has more than enough money to make this all go away, told Gabe today that he was not deserving of her help because he doesn’t have a job and isn’t in school.

My mom is helping where she can, but she is also nursing injuries, she lives in another part of the state, she works long days, and she’s in the middle of moving. Gabe needs a new phone. He has been using mine for doctors’ appointments and trying to communicate with anyone who is able to help. He also doesn’t have a car, so I’m driving him around everywhere (to appointments, errands, etc.).

I am sinking fast into unforeseen medical costs for procedures, appointments, and prescriptions that are crucial to our recoveries. Bills are due, extra bills are beginning to add up fast, and backup funds are depleting rapidly.

I am humbly requesting financial assistance from anyone who is capable and comfortable doing so. I’m a big believer in reaching out for help, especially through the community.
