Inner Space:Art of Trauma & Healing
My name is Jeralyn Mohr, I am a multi-media artist and sexual assault and rape survivor. I will be showing a body of artwork on June 23-25 at Block Studios in St Paul, MN called Inner Space , which uses outer space as a visual metaphor for the vast inner space sexual trauma occupies. This multi-media art show is intended to raise awareness of sexual violence and its long term effects, break the shame of silence, examine the painful work required to allow for resilience and raise funds for sexual violence non-profits including much needed legal support. Over the last few years, a few key non-profits helped me in my process in going public with my story, report my abuser to the police and get the support I needed in this long difficult journey towards healing. It's extremely important that the artwork resulting from this process be seen and for these over-worked resources to gain as much momentum as possible to continue a new cycle of healing for others as well. I learned the hard way how stretched and scarce legal help is out there. That was truly shocking, and that simply cannot continue to be the case!
Funds raised will be used for printing, marketing and logistical expenses for the show on June 23-25, 2017 and donations to CVIC , Gender Justice Non-profit Law firm and 360 Communities and towards the Break the Silence Memorial .
June is the goal for the art exhibit, but ideally this work will exhibit again and continue to raise awareness and create a sense of community through creative expression, compassion and trauma-informed emotional and legal support.I am hopeful this is just a beginning! Your support is deeply appreciated!
