WE NEED A PLAYGROUND
Here at Insight Support Services we offer an alternative choice for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 with social and emotional regulation challenges and diverse learning needs. It is a space for individuals and families to feel heard, understood and valued; a safe place where we all belong.
Play is so essential to child development around the world that the United Nations High Commission for Human Rights recognizes it as a right of every child. Children need opportunities to explore, experiment, manipulate, reconfigure, discover, practice, push their limits, yell, and create. It allows children to use their imaginations to create all those worlds where they can be anything they want to be.
For each child to learn about their own physical and emotional capabilities, children must push their limits. How high can I swing? How high can I climb? Can I go down the slide headfirst? To learn about the physical world, the child must experiment within the physical world.
We have been functioning without our own outdoor play space since 2007. As a team we have worked tirelessly for the last year to secure an outdoor space beside our new premises, staff and learners have volunteered their time and worked hard to clear the sagebrush and prep the ground.
It is our goal to design a playground using the Universal Design for Learning Principles, our outdoor play space will be safe and accessible for all our learners.
It is a costly venture that our team & families are fully committed to. We are reaching out to you our community to help us reach this goal before September so that our playground will be ready for the children to use and enjoy when we return to school.
All donations big or small will be greatly appreciated,
Insight staff & students.
