Install Migratory Bird Tracking Systems in Panama
Donation protected
The Adopt a Panama Rainforest Association (ADOPTA) is expanding their research activities studying the migratory birds passing through Panama, but need more funding to purchase and install Motus monitoring stations.
These stations function as receivers, automatically tracking any tagged birds that pass by the locations where the stations are installed. The data is then shared with a community of researchers, organizations, non-profits, governments, and individuals allowing for collaboration and monitoring throughout these birds’ migration pathways.
These stations will allow us to learn where Panama’s migratory birds are originating from and traveling to, which is currently a major research priority. Although migratory birds are generally well-known in their breeding and wintering grounds, their lives in between remain largely unknown.
ADOPTA is planning to install three Motus stations across the country to capture different portions of major migration routes. One will be installed at the Bocas Ridge Hotel and Residences in Bocas del Toro, one will be installed in the Sierra Llorona station in Colón, and the third will be installed in ADOPTA’s Cerro Chucantí private nature reserve.
