Institute of recovery from childhood trauma & Cranleigh FC
Donation protected
I’m Imy and my three children are some of the most robust , kind , loving and caring people I know . We have decided as a family to run a 5k to raise funds for the institute of recovery from childhood trauma and cranleigh football club. All donations will be split down the middle. Poppy age 10, Teddy age 8 , Toby age 5 (if he can due to his age) and myself will be training together then running the race together.
My son Teddy has been given the diagnosis of trauma and anxiety through unfortunate experiences due to the actions of their other now non existent parent. The last five years have been difficult for my children , all in their own way . They all share the same story & journey. I feel it’s unfair to share their story in full as the internet never dies and I don’t feel it’s right to lay it out . Especially as they grow older . At times it’s been harrowing.
Teddy has been deeply affected by his journey , it’s been heartbreaking and soul destroying to say the least , I don’t feel
ready to write the full affects . Some days have felt heavy, especially around school or the heartbreak I see in the middle of the night with his horrendous nightmares. Memories I hold truly haunt me . I have been lucky enough to have the children in an incredibly supportive school with many services given to us as well as daily support for Teddy , the support thrown our way has been tremendous, but sadly it takes time to fix his injured brain. I often sit and think :
“how bad must it be for the children that don’t have a support network”.
Football came into Teddys life in 2020. I truly believe it’s one of the elements of life that saved him. He now does school football, kickstart academy but his true passion is the cranleigh football club. The coaches and other team mates have saved him (which they aren’t even aware of, due to me struggling to talk about it). It keeps him focused and mainly has built the crucial connections he needs to heal. This is why I am splitting the money raised .
As a parent it’s been devastating. But as a human I am shocked to find how common this condition is . We want to make a difference . Even a small one.
I will post updates and once we have a race day upload the details of it with photos . I do not expect any donations . I would however be immensely grateful if everyone could read the info provided. As this affects 1000’s of children worldwide . If you can donate once we’ve run we would be grateful forever .
I would ask , that no one sees Teddy any differently. The little boy who so many adore and love is still the same boy you’ve always known. I have protected him from others judgement for a long time . However , his path has started to ease so I feel it’s time (links below) .
