Hi, I’m Greg Peterson, and for those who know me, you’ll understand how much off-road riding and racing means to me.
For years, I’ve lived and breathed the sport, and in 2019, with the help of a dedicated group of volunteers, I founded the Australian Hard Enduro Championship (AHEC) to give riders a platform to showcase their passion.
Why This Matters: Off-road riding in Australia is facing unprecedented challenges. As many of you know, our beloved annual events are being cancelled, and access to legal riding areas is becoming harder to secure. I've poured my heart and soul into fighting for the future of our sport, whether by negotiating land access or pushing through regulatory red tape. My mission has always been clear: to build a community and infrastructure that encourages new riders, supports those returning to the sport, and ensures the next generation has access to this thrilling and rewarding activity.
Since 2019, we’ve organised 19 successful national events across Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, and Tasmania. Our goal has always been to create a space where off-road enthusiasts can race, learn, and grow their skills in a safe and supportive environment. But the challenges we face have only grown over time.
The Problem: Insurance and legal complexities are growing, and they’re making it harder for clubs & race organizers like us to continue hosting events. From navigating national and local legislation to dealing with rising costs and liabilities, the roadblocks are numerous. Unfortunately, the governing bodies that handle the sport are already overwhelmed by these issues, which will likely result in more restrictions, higher fees, and fewer opportunities for competitive riding.
In the last 18 months, I’ve worked tirelessly with lawyers, state governments, insurance brokers, and risk assessors to find a solution. After extensive lobbying and planning, we’ve secured preliminary approval for a public liability policy that will allow us to race in 2025 and beyond!
But we need your help to make it a reality.
How You Can Help: To secure the insurance we need, we’re seeking $245,000 which will contribute to creating the framework, obligations and legislative compliance and supporting technologies that will help ensure the success of AMCA and our partnership with our global insurance provider.
Our preliminary approved insurance secures $20 million in public liability, which is the industry standard for councils when hosting events.
This coverage is crucial for us to host races and ensure the safety of all participants. However, it does not include personal accident cover.
That means if an injury occurs that requires hospitalisation, the existing national Medicare scheme will provide medical expenses for Australian citizens, while those wanting additional coverage (like physio or income protection) can seek coverage through their own investigation and private health funds.
What Will This Funding Do?
Your contribution will help us:
- Launch the Australian Motorcycling Competition Association (AMCA), a dedicated body that will promote and govern off-road events across the country.
- Offer competitor-focused events that prioritise rider safety whilst maximising riding experience.
- Reduce membership/licensing costs and levies for riders, making the sport more accessible.
- Build stronger relationships with landowners, securing more private property partnerships for racing.
- Create a sustainable framework for growing the sport, including all forms of off-road motorcycle racing—not just Hard Enduro.
- Empower local clubs and individual riders to operate under the AMCA umbrella, ensuring a unified and prosperous future for the sport.
The AMCA team consists of experienced professionals, including event organisers, insurance specialists, and legal advisors, all committed to making 2025 a landmark year for the future of off-road racing in Australia.
What Happens if We Don’t Reach Our Goal?
All funds will be used to develop the necessary framework required to retain our insurance, should our current insurance offer be withdrawn for any reason, any funds raised will be retained and used to secure an alternative policy, ensuring the long-term viability of our events and the AMCA.
