Intensive Speech Therapy for Tara Anderson
Donation protected
In mid-July, my sister-in-law’s life partner Tara Anderson had a massive stroke. My wife Yvonne and I are raising money for intensive speech therapy for Tara – treatment that is not covered by her insurance but is crucial to help her recover her ability to communicate effectively!
After several weeks in the hospital and several more weeks in a rehab hospital, Donna was able to bring Tara back home! Tara is growing in strength and stamina every day, but her stroke affected the speech areas in her brain, so her communication skills are still fairly deficient at this point.
Unfortunately, her insurance will stop paying for speech therapy for her Aphasia (the technical term for her speech deficit caused by her stroke) by early November.
However, there is a fantastic intensive treatment center in Tampa where they live - the Aphasia Center (see link below). Tara will receive 20-25 hours of intensive speech therapy per week for four consecutive weeks, starting on November 21.
Research shows that the first six months after a stroke is the most crucial time for treatment and that most of the recovery from a stroke takes place during those first few months – so therapy before the end of the year is essential for Tara. Each week of treatment costs $5,100, so we hope to raise $20,400 between now and December 31.
We are asking our family and friends (and the family and friends of Donna and Tara) to contribute to this worthy goal. If you can donate $25, $50, $100 or even more to this campaign, we are confident we can raise the total amount to cover this critical therapy. All the money will go directly to Donna and Tara to cover these expenses.
If you can contribute (or even if you can’t but consider this a worthy goal), please also consider liking or re-posting this on your social media account, so we can raise this money promptly.
Finally, please pray for Donna and Tara as they continue dealing with massive life changes caused by this stroke.
