The fossil museum will be the drawcard, and this is being designed by well-known design company Earth Story with input from renowned Australian paleontologist Professor Mike Archer. When you find out that the fossils found in Murgon are from the Eocene period, just like Riversleigh, but pre-date those in Riversleigh by almost 30 million years you should hopefully be as curious and impressed as the paleontologists around the world were, when they were discovered.

To put this in context, Riversleigh is 25 million years old while the Murgon fossil find called “Tingamarra” is 55 million years old and include the fossils of some of the world’s first marsupial mammals, birds and others. 15 new species have been found in the Murgon area and more are being unearthed.

This new Art Gallery and Fossil Museum will be one of its kind in Queensland and we have envisaged it will bring an extra 8,000 people annually to our town and the South Burnett. I have seen what it will look like and I can assure you it will blow your expectations out the window. We have been successful in gaining $1,500,000 from the Federal Govt through a BBRF Grant.

The grant was for the building of the museum but it will cost another $900,000 to fit out the interior.

We have been successful in raizing a good percentage of the money through sponsorship and local private donations . Can you please help us in completing this world class fossil museum and fine art gallery combined with a workshop area for mental health to the World Stage.

This museum is the only one of it’s kind in the region apart from the Queensland Museum Brisbane 3 hours away. There are 15 unique fossils including a condolarth and crocodiles. This museum cannot be replicated, and this should make Murgon the beginning of Queensland’s dinosaur trail. This will become a landmark facility creating community pride.
