Inverell Polocrosse Club Fields
Donation protected
The Inverell Polocrosse Club Inc is looking to purchase the fields we have been privately leasing.
Polocrosse is an Australian made sport. It is played by many people right across Australia and the World to see more click here .
Inverell Polocrosse Club Inc has being playing Polocrosse since 1951. Our membership is made up of families from the Inverell district. Family is at the heart of our sport with many of our families playing in the same team during tournaments. Our club has had many Zone, State and National representations. It is rare for a nationals to run without an Inverell member representing NSW in one of the teams. Just last year, one of our up and coming players represented Australia in a Test Series against New Zealand. See Darcy in action.
Our fear is that our great sport could be at a great loss if we lose our playing fields. Unlike other sports, we need a large area to play our sport and a similar sized area to park and stable all of our participants and their horses.
Our club has had many homes over the years. Originally we used to play on the Inverell Showgrounds and use the fields at the rear of the Showgrounds (now soccer fields and cricket pitches). We played at the Long Plain Hall just East of Inverell. We have also played in Glen Innes at the Stone Henge Reserve, just South of Glen Innes.
Since 2013 our home has been at our playing fields at Eddy Park Lane, Inverell. We have privately leased our fields during this 7 year period. In that time our club members have spent many, many hours building facilities, upgrading the playing surface and maintaining the grounds. Unfortunately, we are set to lose all of this hard work, as the flexible and understanding owners have been looking to sell the land for the past three years.
When we host an event at our grounds it brings over 500 visitors to our town. These visitors usually arrive on Friday afternoon and stay until Sunday afternoon. These visitors stay in local accommodation and go shopping in our town, during their stay. Our events are good for the economy of our community and are well supported by our local spectators, participants and sponsors.
Our club has tried applying for grants, applied for bank loans, approached Inverell Shire Council for assistance and support and approached our State MP, Adam Marshall. All of these options have been faced by adversity and to no avail.
The funds are needed to purchase the land from the current owners and pay for any legal fees associated with the sale.
The Inverell Polocrosse Club Inc requires the funding ASAP. Unfortunately, we need to act fast as the current owners have already listed the property for sale.
We need your help. Please help and donate.
