Inverness or Bust: A Transgender Documentary
Inverness Or Bust an incredible story of friendship, allyship and trans pride set in the backdrop of 1970's Britain. The film focuses on a road-trip that a group of transgender people took in the 1970's to visit a sympathetic doctor in Inverness, Scotland. The group were told that the head of an asylum was willing to put together a medical team to help transgender people, and they all decided to go meet with him.
In this documentary we are hitting the road again, taking a trip down memory lane, with some of the core members. Along the way they will reminisce on what it was like to be a transgender person in 1970's UK, what this journey meant to them and reflect on how far we've come, what has changed and what still needs to change.
Preserving transgender history is more important now than ever as our stories are rarely told and kept. This year marks 45 years since that faithful journey, and the original members of the group are mostly 70+, with some of them having already passed away. We want to honour their memory and by taking the trip once again, allowing different generations of transgender people to connect and share their stories.
The money raised will all be used for production costs for the film and will be vital in ensuring we can carry out the project. With your help we will be able to make it happen and you'll play a part in telling a story that might otherwise be forgotten.

ABOUT MY GENDERATION
My Generation (CIC) is non-profit film project celebrating trans lives and trans experiences. It's currently run by Fox Fisher & Owl, with a trusty team of transgender people from various backgrounds.
All our content is created by trans people, about trans people, for everyone. We've created over 100 short films, shown on the BBC and C4, and screened worldwide at film festivals.
We've collaborated with major organisations such as Stonewall UK, IGLYO, CliniQ, PrEPster and Transgender Europe to create content for specific programmes and campaigns. We've also developed films for educational resources, such as films for the NHS or the workplaces across the UK.
Our aims are to reflect the diversity of the trans community and show trans people in a positive light, in order to combat stigma and hate and help humanise the experience of being transgender.
We are a grassroots organisation and make sure that people from diverse backgrounds and of intersecting identities are at the forefront of our creations, both behind the camera and in front of it. We are dedicated to making the world a better place through the medium of film, and elevate the voices of transgender people so that together we can build a better place for us all.
An idea of what your donations will be going towards:
- Salary for the cast and crew: we are going to be assembling a great crew of trans film makers that are devoting their time and energy to this project. We want to pay people for their time as professional film makers, as well as pay our contributors a fee for devoting time to being a part of this project.
- Renting cars for the journey across the UK and to Scotland. The crew will be going on a road trip together which means we will need to have plenty of room for everyone, plus all the equipment. We will also need to cover the costs for petrol on several cars.
- Accommodation & food. We will need to stay in several places throughout the journey, and will need to cover those costs for everyone. Everyone neds to eat too, and we want to cover their food costs.
- Equipment costs. For this we will need to buy things like hard drives, batteries, SD cards, and rent extra equipment. For a project of this size we will need some extra equipment such as more lights, display screens, extra audio devices and more.
- Insurance. We will need to buy insurance for our equipment, the cars and the crew.
- Distribution. This includes paid advertisement, fees to enter into film festivals and costs related to booking venues for screenings.
There are more costs related to a project like this that will become more clear once it develops, but we hope this gives you an idea of some of the major costs involved.
Thank you for reading and donating and please share this far and wide!
