Hey guys! I'm raising funds for my bestie and roommate, Claire Brumleve.
What was supposed to be a fun-filled vacation in Guatemala quickly turned tragic as her perceived-to-be "minor" tummy troubles landed her in a Central American hospital.
After days spent dealing with mass amounts of discomfort, nausea, vomiting, and more, doctors admitted her into the Centro Médico. Cat scan results revealed a section of her small intestines had twisted—leaving 3ft of dead tissue that wasn't doing its job.
Thankfully she arrived when she did, and a 5-hour emergency surgery removed the lifeless leftovers.
But the road to recovery won't be a short one, nor an inexpensive one.
"We are not through the storm. She is strong and healthy, but she is very sick. I’m confident she will recover, but it’s going to be a slow process.” - Dr. Paz, Médico Tratante en Centro Médico
She's still in the Guatemalan hospital and will be there for up to 12 days while doctors monitor her healing and test what they removed; they still don't know what kind of bacteria was breakdancing down in her gut.
Between the extended hospital stay, the meds, and more gastro visits she'll need upon her return, my girl's going to need some extra support. Treatment thus far is running upwards of $14,000.
She's a freelance photographer—so if you're an advocate for artists, know you'll be helping one get back on their feet.
No amount is too small, and there's definitely no amount that's too big ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
**P.S. If you're wondering what the green stuff is coming out of her nose in that picture... At this time, nothing is allowed to go through her intestines to give them time to heal. So take a guess, and help out my homie. She's down bad, for real!*
