Investing in Mary

I met Mary when I was in elementary school. She was the new kid from Buffalo and I was an outcast so it was always natural for me to make newbies feel welcomed, but normally they’d move on and meet “cooler kids” - but with Mary that was different, she stayed. She’s stayed in my life all this time! Mary and her family are Dutch like I am, and she’s definitely one of my tree’s branches than leaves…I used to get rides to her house and memories that which stand out most are: eating delicious food her mother cooked for us, who welcomed me into their family as one of their own, playing hours of Nintendo; fun fact Mary can SLAY at Mario Bros. & we’d call boys we liked l. (insert giggle here) I’ve seen Mary’s own family grow together and be together and it’s beautiful. Other than a general “Mary appreciation post” I have a point, The other night I saw Mary was having difficulty with access to student loan money and school is coming and books are a NECESSITY!! This fundraiser is for textbooks for Mary’s education. When I asked Mary about her goals and aspirations she said the following:

I started studying at SUNY Erie and have now transferred into SUNY Delhi.

Im studying HR management

I started school again because I was just literally working so many hours of retail and missing out on so much of my kids lives- their activities, events, family events I missed etc and just one day knew I had to make a change. Long time ago I tried to go after I graduated- I guess I wasn’t ready- I wasn’t focused , I honestly didn’t know what I wanted to do- I was just going to go.

So I started with business and found my way into HR.

I chose HR because it touches on everything that I love- I can assist with interviewing for companies, I can help develop people, I like to help in solving problems, every day is a new day-,just making a difference and having a positive effect on an organization is important. You need strong supporting HR managers who have strong communication skills and can listen- and that’s why I chose this career path.
