Ever since he was a child playing in little league, Dan Minervini has had a passion for baseball. His Dad was his coach and he has been inspired by his Dad to continue to be a part of the game by coaching, umpiring, and playing softball as much as he can. Dan will always have a love for the game!
Recently Dan has been thrown a curve ball that he is determined to hit out of the park,
Last year, Dan discovered a lump developing along the right side of his jawline. After a doctor's visit, it was determined that it was just a cyst and was immediately drained. Erring on the side of caution, the doctors tested the fluid and to his and his family's relief, any sign of cancerous cells were not present. Dan was back on the field doing what he loves!!
Eight months later, Dan found himself back in the doctors office, the lump had come back and it was bigger. Draining was not an option so surgery would have to be done. The tumor (not cyst)was removed and after a biopsy found to be cancerous. Drs. in a very aggressive treatment removed his tonsils and pulled wisdom teeth immediately. More cancerous cells are found in Dans tonsils.
The diagnosis is Stage 4A head and neck cancer.
Processing this news has been very devastating for Dan, his family, and many friends.
But Dan has decided to step up to the plate and smash this one out of the park!!
Dan will now undergo a very rigorous treatment plan including cheomotherapy and radiation to fight for the cure. The side effects of these treatments are harsh and life changing but the strength of friends and family being supportive is priceless. Every smile , Every handshake, Every pat on the Back, means more then you can know.....
The unfortunate news is with Dan on medical leave and Paulette's salary cut as well being the care giver, making ends meet will be a struggle is an understatement. Medical bills already piling up, a new deductible at the New Year Whether it is a monetary donation, a warm meal, a ride to treatment or even a loving smile This Family is going appreciate everything..
Dan is going to to be the MVP in his battle against this disease. He just needs a little help from the bench.
