Ipswich to Düsseldorf cycle ride for foodbanks

Hi, we are James and Elijah - fans of Ipswich Town Football Club, and members of the supporter-led group 'Ipswich Town Fans Supporting Foodbanks'.

We are cycling from Portman Road, departing immediately after the Arsenal fixture on Sunday 20th April to embark on the 300-mile trip to Düsseldorf to arrive in time to attend the Fortuna home fixture vs Nürnberg on Saturday 26th April.

Ipswich and Fortuna fans enjoy a special friendship that has grown since 2006, with delegations of fans from both clubs visiting every season. We are grateful to Fortuna Blues for hosting us at the Nürnberg match.

Our journey is being made in support of food banks in both Ipswich and Düsseldorf, to help demonstrate the positive impact of football fans coming together to bring about positive change in the community. Some issues are bigger than the game of football: hunger doesn't wear club colours, and solidarity mustn't stop at borders.

The funds raised will be split between:

40% to FIND Foodbank Ipswich Registered Charity No. 1106050

FIND has provided free food parcels, bedding, furniture and other personal items to people in need in Suffolk for over 30 years. The demand for food parcels has increased year on year, with over 8,000 children in Suffolk living in poverty.

40% to Tafel Düsseldorf

The Tafel is a not-for-profit organisation committed to the distribution of food to the financially disadvantaged. Despite its image as a 'rich city', 1 in 5 children in Düsseldorf are affected by food poverty. Through their work, the Tafel saves 3,540 tonnes of food from going to waste in Düsseldorf each year.

10% to Ipswich Town Fans Supporting Foodbanks

Ipswich Town Fans Supporting Foodbanks are an independent, fan-led group who believe in a universal right to food. We have been working effectively with the Club and the Foundation to arrange match-day fundraising and food collections in support of FIND. Our portion of the money raised will be directed solely towards our charity and campaigning work. All expenses associated with the ride are self-funded by the participants.

10% to the Ipswich Town Foundation

The Ipswich Town Foundation is the charitable arm of the club. They undertake a range of initiatives to ensure the Club has a positive impact in the community it serves across Suffolk and surrounding areas.

Die Fans von Ipswich Town und Fortuna Düsseldorf verbindet eine besondere Freundschaft, die seit 2006 gewachsen ist – jedes Jahr besuchen sich Delegationen beider Vereine. Wir bedanken uns herzlich bei den 'Fortuna Blues' für ihre Gastfreundschaft beim Spiel gegen Nürnberg.

Unsere Tour unterstützt Tafeln in Ipswich und Düsseldorf, um zu zeigen, wie Fußballfans gemeinsam positive Veränderungen in der Gesellschaft bewirken können. Manche Probleme sind größer als der Sport: Hunger kennt keine Vereinsfarben, und Solidarität darf nicht an Grenzen haltmachen.

Die gesammelten Spenden werden wie folgt aufgeteilt:

FIND unterstützt seit über 30 Jahren Bedürftige in Suffolk mit kostenlosen Lebensmittelpaketen, Bettwäsche, Möbeln und anderen Hilfsgütern. Die Nachfrage steigt jährlich – mehr als 8.000 Kinder in Suffolk leben in Armut.

*40 % an die Tafel Düsseldorf

Die Tafel ist eine gemeinnützige Organisation, die Lebensmittel an finanziell Benachteiligte verteilt. Trotz des Images als "reiche Stadt“ ist jedes fünfte Kind in Düsseldorf von Ernährungsarmut betroffen. Die Tafel rettet jährlich 3.540 Tonnen Lebensmittel vor der Verschwendung.

Wir sind eine unabhängige Fangruppe, die sich für das Recht auf Nahrung für alle einsetzt. In Zusammenarbeit mit dem Verein und der Stiftung organisieren wir Spendenaktionen und Lebensmittelsammlungen. Unser Anteil fließt ausschließlich in wohltätige und kampagnenbezogene Arbeit. Alle Reisekosten tragen wir selbst.
