My name is Dejianna Powell I’m an energetic, high spirited freshman at Streator Township High School whom has over the years shown an unwavering passion of becoming a veterinarian. At age 8 upon returning from a school field trip to Lincoln Park Zoo, I told my mom I wanted to be a vet, at age 10 I got to visit veterinarian's office as a career day activity with my aunt, and that solidified my dream of becoming a veterinarian.
Upon entering high school, I chose to enroll in the Introduction to Agriculture & Leadership course, and immediately joined FFA where I have been able to take classroom experiences and apply them to real life situations through conferences, conventions, and career related activities. Some of the many events include National FFA Convention, 212 Leadership Conference, as well as the Greenhand Conference. Through my Agricultural course, I’ve also taken part in the Think Oink Project where I had the opportunity to work with a female pig and assist in delivering her piglets. Because of my experiences in my agricultural course, I have decided to take the next step of leadership and submit an application to become a Streator FFA Chapter Officer for the 2017-2018 school year.

By being involved in my agricultural course at Streator Township High School, I have been presented with a select opportunity to travel abroad to Ireland in a summer study abroad trip. While on this trip, I will study a wide variety of agricultural concepts such as animal, plant, and production agriculture. This trip to Ireland is just another amazing educational step closer to my dream of becoming a veterinarian.
My mom is a single parent and simply cannot afford to send me on this trip and if not for the importance of this endeavor I would not have resorted to asking others for financial support. Personally, I am looking forward to my mom watching me grow and develop from this once in a lifetime experience. I would appreciate any contributions because every little bit helps thank you in advance for all your support.
