Our beloved Irene, Mom, Mommy, and Nana recently passed on 12/4/2022. Irene was a devoted mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend who touched the lives of those around her with her kindness and generosity. Irene dedicated her life to Christ, she loved her children, and cooking and baking for loved ones.

Irene raised a daughter LaToya Hicks (whom with she shared an extraordinary bond) with her devoted husband, who unfortunately passed away from congestive heart failure as well in 2005.

She also raised her nieces and their children as her very own daughter and her six children whom they call her "Mommy" and along with their 7 children whom they call her "Nana". Even though they were not biologically her children and grandchildren, she treated them as her own. Other than serving at church, loving on her children, Irene enjoyed cooking, baking and fishing. She was known for her spaghetti and homemade strawberry shortcake. Family and friends’ gatherings just weren’t complete unless Irene’s staples were there! Irene cooked and baked up until her passing.

Irene also known as Sister Irene, she was a committed member of her church. Where she led a prayer call line to encourage faith and taught Sunday school. She was a devoted member of her church and she knew Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She would pray for everyone and believed that God was the answer and treated others with respect and kindness.

She was also known for her work with Fleming Community Senior Center and Ateaze Senior Center. Irene was deeply valued in her community and loved by her neighbors and co-workers.

I am currently asking for donations to help cover the cost of Irene’s funeral. Unfortunately, Irene had preexisting health conditions that prevented her from sustaining life insurance. Irene suffered from diabetes, congestive heart failure and breast cancer. She suddenly passed from complications of her health condition.

We need to raise $6,000 by 12/13/22. Please consider donating, any amount will truly help our family during this difficult time.

We are all devastated by Irene’s passing and were not prepared for the expense of a funeral service. We want to give our Irene, Mom, Mommy, Nana, sister, and aunt the memorial she deserves, to honor her life.
