Iris Hui Memorial Graduate Student Scholarship
My wife Iris passed away unexpectedly on August 26, 2021. Many of you have reached out with words of encouragement and support, and have shared heartfelt memories. It has been a privilege to know that Iris had touched so many lives as a scholar, a mentor, an educator, and a friend at Stanford University and University of California, Berkeley.
In lieu of flowers, I would like to keep Iris’ passion and dedication to social science research alive. Funds that are raised will be used to set up a memorial scholarship in Iris’ name to support researchers and students tackling issues that meant so much to Iris - urgent, real-world problems facing all of us, from the governance of natural resources to climate change, from political empowerment, to migration, etc.
For those of us who knew Iris well, she would tell you not to dwell on the past, to get on with it and to be present. We’ve got work to do. This scholarship will help propel changes that our society desperately needs, for us and for generations to come. I sincerely hope that you will honor Iris’ legacy and support scholars who share the same vision as Iris for a better future.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
