Irish Astronomy Week
Donation protected
Irish Astronomy Week, starting on March 1st, will feature almost 100 events across Ireland to promote astronomy and space science. Organized by Mayo-based astronomer Ronan Newman, the event aims to inspire future astronomers with its theme "Our Place Amongst the Stars." Activities will include a broad spectrum of astronomical outreach events held in libraries, schools, planateriums, dark sky parks and individual astronomy clubs throughout the Island of Ireland. Many of the talks will highlight advancements in astrophotography and will showcase stunning images by many gifted photographers of celestial wonders visible from our enchanted skies.. As national coordinator for Irish Astronomy Week, I am extremely proud of the event that I created has proved extremely successful, But it could not achieve this without the many people who are kindly sharing their time and passion for astronomy in all its forms. Many of the talks this year are either family geared events or private talks to children who are coming to libraries or school to be inspired in wonder and awe of Astronomy.
I received logistical help and some financial support by organisations such as the Irish Federation of Astronomical Societies and KTEC telescopes, and for the record I completely independent of Astronomy Ireland. While over the past two years, I have distributed posters, generously donated by KTEC telescopes, to more than 60 libraries hosting events, costing nearly €200, while €200 is also earmarked for website updates and re-registration. To ensure the continuation of this event into 2026 and 2027, your financial support is very much appreciated. Please consider donating.
