Kidney Transplant Family Support Fund

Dear Friends of IROC,
The COVID-19 pandemic is taxing every person across the globe, creating struggles and challenges of remarkable magnitude. IROC recognizes that many kidney transplant families are experiencing financial hardship during this time, and the Collaborative is in a strong position to help. One of the ways we are doing so is to support the Kidney Transplant Family Support Fund.
The Fund will collect donations and distribute them to families of kidney transplant children that are in need. Our goal is to get funds in the hands of families quickly. Here’s how it works:
1. If you are an IROC member we ask you to nominate families you believe are experiencing particularly acute financial hardship during this time. Two categories of families we’d most like to support are those that recently lost their job due to shutdowns and those that are healthcare workers (nurses, etc.) that need to cover unforeseen childcare or other expenses due to COVID-19. A nomination is all that is required; we will trust the judgement of our IROC members and not be performing additional verification or selection.
In order to protect personal information, you can nominate families by suggesting this opportunity to those you wish to nominate and then encouraging them to contact [email redacted] to be included, at which point we will reach out to them to collect their contact information.
2. We also invite you to contribute whatever you can to support transplant families. You can contribute personally or, if reasonably quick, through your institution. Any amount is appreciated, and you are also welcome to share this opportunity with any friends from your personal networks you believe might have an interest in supporting the effort.

3. Once all the nominations are received and the funds are raised (ideally 2 - 4 weeks), IROC will divide the total funds donated by number of nominated families and send out checks directly to the families.
COVID-19 is an existential threat to the security and well-being of the families we work so hard to protect clinically. Let’s work together to help them on this front as well by nominating families and providing financial support to the Kidney Transplant Family Support Fund.
