Ironman UK for the Heart Cells Foundation

I'm attempting to complete Ironman UK in Bolton on July 2nd 2023. This will involve a 3.8km swim, 180km cycle and a 42.2km run. I am taking on this challenge in order to raise money for the Heart Cells Foundation charity, an amazing organisation that we were fortunate enough to meet with in 2021 before my Grandad, Clive Brooks, sadly passed away later that year.

It's a privilege to have had Clive as my Grandad and to have seen the immense bravery and courage he displayed whilst battling a number of health issues over many years. He never let these barriers get him down, and remained positive and strong in the face of adversity time and time again. It would be impossible to describe how much he was, and is still loved by our family, and we miss him greatly.

Due to him having heart failure, my family visited the Heart Cells Foundation in 2021 to see if my Grandad was eligible for their regenerative medicine trial scheme. He was deemed 'not unwell enough' at the time which provided some humour after everything he had been through. Despite not being eligible, we were so impressed with the way he was treated, and the vision the charity has going forward is definitely worth having a read about.

The Heart Cells Foundation are pioneers for stem cell therapy usage in treating heart failure within the context of regenerative medicine. The ability to use a person's own stem cells to repair their own heart is revolutionising medical practice, and their goal is to make this treatment readily available for everyone. Having already passed through phases I and II, the foundation is seeking extra funding prior to entering phase III, as well as enabling the creation of a special unit at St. Bart's hospital and The London NHS Trust.
